sperm count

Hello. I purchased three vials of donor 13605. I recently had my first IUI and I am currently in my two week wait. My sperm count after thawing the vial for my procedure was 9.5 million per my fertility specialist. Do you guys have a sperm count guarantee of 10 million? I was a little disappointed of the count after paying a great amount of money for those vials.

  • I have the same problem. I had iui with donor 13551 and after thawing the count was 7.95million and i did not get pregnant.
My dr said he faxed over the SA to the cryobank but i have not heard anything from them.
  • This has happened to me as well. First IUI 7.4 mil and I just had a second IUI and AGAIN it was only 7.2 mil. My RE told me that for every million sperm, it increases your odds per 1%. Depending on the outcome of this second low count, I am going to switch donors or even banks.
  • Hi All –

Please note that the occurrence of substandard vials is very rare. Often times, a result different from ours is due to a deviation from our thawing instructions. For example, we use a pre-warmed Makler counting chamber when evaluating the thawed sample. Using a different type of counting chamber/slide and not warming it are two instances that can make a great deal of difference in the count. Sperm thrive at body temperature, so even if the counting chamber isn’t warmed during evaluation, the sperm will continue to “wake up” once they are inseminated into the body.

In regards to the post that mentioned “ for every million sperm, it increases your odds 1%”, our technical director has never encountered this reference. It could be referring to a study of insemination outcome using sperm from male partners with low sperm counts. He points out,“There are abundant scientific studies indicating that IUIs performed with donor sperm with 2-5 million motile sperm produces maximum pregnancy achievement. Numbers in excess of 5 million does NOT increase the conception rate regardless of recipient age.”

It takes the average healthy woman 3-4 IUIs to achieve pregnancy and both donors mentioned above already have reported pregnancies. That being said, our goal is to help you start your family and we are here to help you along this journey.

  • How do you know if you purchased premium vials vs. A.R.T. Vials. I was told that the specimen I got had 6 million. This number seems low according to the CC specimen quality standard?
  • Hi RJ -

When you log in to My Account if you click on the Order History tab you can view your past invoices. The invoice will display if the vial was ICI or IUI and Premium or A.R.T.

As mentioned above, depending on the outcome, you can have your physician complete the specimen report form and contact Melonee x1240 with any questions.
