We're interested in this donor but are concerned about a recent post stating low sperm counts. Does anyone have recent information on the amount of pregnancies or sperm counts?
Thanks in advance for your help!

Donor 13694 has over 5 reported pregnancies.
Please note that a "substandard" specimen report does not mean that a donor has a low sperm count.
Quality control is a huge part of what we do and we have an entire Quality Department. All of our donors, including Donor 13694, go through an extensive screening process. Our lab is looking for a certain sperm quality that’s only evident in the top 15-20% of the male population. Less than 1% of applicants actually become CCB donors. (You can check out the details of our screening process in this short video: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NurCUuZaa1c )
Every single donation is evaluated to make sure that it measures up to our high quality standards. There are several factors that can cause a physician’s lab to report different numbers than our lab. We freeze, thaw, and count our specimen samples in a very specific way with specific types of equipment. We also include thawing instructions with each shipment so that each lab can evaluate the samples accordingly. Different variables such as thawing time, temperature, inadequate mixing, and even the type of counting chamber used can significantly impact the final outcome of the thawed specimen. If a lab uses a disposable slide instead of a warmed Makler chamber (what we use) to evaluate the specimen, they are likely to receive a lower count.
We ship vials to over a thousand labs and we have no way to monitor how they thaw and count our specimen. If they use a different method or different equipment, they very well may receive a different result.
Of all the vials we ship, we receive less than 3% of substandard specimen reports. The majority of these reports are from labs that use disposable slides.
Sperm thrive at body temperature and if the specimen was under-thawed or a warmed chamber was not used, there can be a great deal of difference in the count. The good news is that when the sperm is inseminated into the body, it will continue to “wake up” and motility will increase. I should note that some clients reporting “substandard” vials have gotten pregnant from those vials.
Also, it’s important to keep in mind that studies show that anything greater than 5 million motile donor sperm used for an IUI does not improve pregnancy rates. Our vial standards are set generously above this mark.
If you have your heart set on Donor 13694, there's no reason not to choose him. He will provide the same chance of success as any other donor on our catalog.

Nicole
