Fetal Doppler monitor

Thought I'd share that we bought a fetal Doppler monitor for $60 and have been listening to our baby's heartbeat since week 11. It's the most amazing thing! We listen every night and there has been only one time that we couldn't find it. I recommend splurging- it such a fun way to really feel pregnant in this early stage!

  • what one did you get?
  • We got the sonoline pocket Doppler from fetalharmony.com. It arrived in 3 days and works great!
  • I want one! But.. I'm over weight and afraid that I wouldn't be able to hear the heartbeat which would freak me out!
  • I think i might get one!
  • Actually...just bought one, the sonoline B from fetalharmony.com Yay!
  • Awesome! Let us know if it works! Also I have been following your blog. You guys a week ahead of us and its fun hearing about what you are going thru. Congrats!

Rshea, try it! My partner has a little extra weight on her and it hasn't been an issue.
  • Thanks! Congrats to you too!!! We will definitely update on how well it works! Can't wait to get it!
  • Hi Tommie! I just wanted to see how things are going. I am 14 wks and 3 days today. I secretly want a heart monitor....let me know how you like it. Are you going to find out the sex of your baby? I think we will at 16 wks. How is the 2nd trimester going? I'm starting to feel better, less nausea but still exhausted! I guess that will be my new normal....especially after the baby gets here :) hope all is well! My iPad wouldn't pull up your blog....what is it again?
  • YES!!!!!!!!!! Yes we are finding out the sex, hopefully on Tuesday! We will be 15 wks an 2 days, so there is a chance it won't work but we sure are hoping it will! Its going good so far! She's starving and we can feel a mass in her tummy! As I type the fetal monitor came in...did you add us on FB? It's so nice to know ppl who are right there with us on the pregnancy!!!

  • and the verdict is...it works GREAT. I stuck it on and BOOM heard it instantly! Didn't even have to move it around!!!!!! How awesome!! The heart rate was between 120-140...i'm so excited! Definitely get one! FYI, Tommie is not twiggy either, it will work!
  • Hi Tommie, I just read your post on another thread about how much you want a boy. We do too!!!! We had an ultrasound today at 14 wks 5 days and they said it might be a girl! The baby was not cooperative and they only got one quick shot so we are holding out for another ultrasound. We know it is early but it sure was fun to see our little one wiggling all around! I was surprised at how shocked I was when they said "girl" ....I know it is 50/50 but I am carrying and really thought it was a boy. Go figure! Well, I'll keep you posted....hopefully we can get a better view next sat. And of course happy an healthy is all that really matters!
  • Yesterday we were doing all those "old wives tales" like the baking soda test, the ring test etc. The baking soda didn't fizzle so it was a girl. The ring rocked back and forth vs swinging in a circle so it's a boy. The quiz says it's a girl. Tommie says it's a girl. Lol so who the heck knows! Tommie gets worried that I want a boy soooooo bad that i will be disappointed if it is a girl. I mean shoot, i will but I will be happy with either.

We sure are hoping our kid cooperates on Tuesday and gives us a good shot of the "goods!" We'll let you know though.

C - did you add us on FB? It is so hard to remember who is who because everyones names are different everywhere!
  • I've just heard about these dopplers a couple of days ago and was reading about the safety and risks of sonograms... For those of you who already have one, how many mh does it emit?

I'm excited about the thought of it, but what I've read so far has only revealed 'risks' without a lot of specifics. Left handedness in boys apparently is common with these home machines with excessive or prolonged use. Other than that, I haven't found any details of said 'risks'. Having already had an early miscarriage, I'm understandibly leery of any risks that can be consciously avoided.

From what I understand so far (I'm doing more research on it) the machines cannot go to a higher frequency than what the FDA recommends for fetal monitoring. I'm just curious what kind of mh are on these products?
  • Ours is 3mhz. Maggie, I think those studies refer more towards sonograms than dopplers. For instance our RE won't let us do a 3/4d US because of those said "risks"

However, I would love a left handed boy! --- I am left handed!

Our doppler is also FDA approved.
  • Ours is 3mhz too and approved for daily use. We only use it for a couple minutes at a time. Just enough to plaster smiles on our faces!
