Donor Sperm lifespan

So timing is everything they say with having an IUI procedure. My question is how long does frozen sperm live? From what I heard freash sperm live much longer like 5 days but heard that frozen is much less. I had my second IUI today and am concern because I had the LH surge today. (I am assuming because my docrot office is closed.) should I be concerned?

  • You did your 2 iuis before your + lh test? Did they say why they were doing the iui before and not after the + opk? I think frozen washed sperm lives 12-24 hours.
  • Hi Mist -

Frozen sperm can survive in the uterus for about 12-24 hours after insemination.

Timing is very important for IUIs and your physician would know the best time to inseminate, based on your cycle. It's also important for you to communicate any questions concerns to your physician, since you are both working toward the same goal of pregnancy.

    Best of luck,

  • Not exactly Tracy. My first iui was done last month a day after my surge. Obviously it didn't work so this is my 2nd iui. This go around we did the iui on the day of the surge. That is why I ask about the life span. Maybe they are trying something new not sure.

Nicole thanks for your help. Just didn't know if it was normal and wanted another persons view.
  • My re also likes to do the day of the +. I thought you said theu did the iui before you even got the +. I have tried day after and day of and none have worked for me. This month i had a false opk the day before may actual surge and went in the day of the false. So im thinking this time didnt work either. On to # 6 :( Good luck !!
  • guess Tracy, you and I are on the same boat. Well I am glad to hear that some other RE do the same thing. I am soo sorry to hear about the false OPK. How did you know that happened? I am feeling it didn't work either but now I am just going to have to wait for the two week wait. Good luck to you as well!! keep me posted how you are doing. Thanks for your help.
