Are donor sperm tested for this?

Comments

  • Hi Paula -

Yes. We call it Chromosome Analysis. Here is the description from our genetic testing page:

    Chromosome Analysis
Chromosomes are the structures that carry our DNA. A chromosome analysis looks at the number and the structure of an individual's chromosomes. Typically, an analysis of human chromosomes reveals a total of 46 chromosomes. If a sperm donor applicant has an abnormal chromosome numbers or structure he would not be eligible to participate in our program.

  • Thanks I read that paragraph on chromosome analysis. I guess I was looking for a more detailed description of what this entailed. I am a nurse so I guess it is in my nature to want more information. Does this testing show translocation of chromosomes?
  • Hi Paula -

For more detailed information, I recommend contacting our Genetics Department at 877-743-6384. They are much better at answering specific genetics questions than I am and are happy to assist you.
