Acupuncture

I keep reading many success stories of women who did IUIs with acupuncture. If anyone has more information on acupuncture and the timing of it for IUIs please let me know. Should it be done before, after, or in between the 2 IUIs? And how often during a cycle?
I have an appointment with an acupuncturist for this Tuesday (probably 4 days before the IUI) and then I am guessing on the day of the 1st IUI (they are closed on Sundays so I don't think I can do one on that day as well).
Thanks so much!

  • Dolphin, I have been doing acupuncture for years. When I told my acupuncturist that I wanted to get pregnant he started prepping my body for this. I started in Nov about 3 months before i got pregnant. It is an entire mind body experience he treats my mind and body. I went probably every 2 weeks and when I had my IUI, I just happened to have an appt that afternoon with him. He was a single practitioner and I made my appts about 3 weeks in advance. It just so happened to fall on that day. Once I found out I was pregnant I went the entire pregnancy and continued with it up until 3 weeks ago when I moved out of state. I am in the process of looking for a new one.

He has gotten several woman pregnant that I have sent him and they continue through out the pregnancy. When you go and see the acupuncturist see what they say, ask a lot of questions, ask about moving points. They should stay away from those points and certain points in the feet. These points can cause miscarriages and premature labor. Not trying to scare you but this is how you can tell if they are good or not.

Questions let me know. I love and miss my acupuncturist. He was more than that to me and my son. Good luck.
  • Thank you so much Anissa.
I am seeing one on Tuesday that is highly recommended by a friend and well known in the area.
I am printing out your advice and bringing it with me. It is a little bit pricey ($135 per session) but I am guessing this is normal?
With a package, it should be cheaper.
Thanks again for all of your good advice.
  • Hi dolphin14, which area are you in ?.. that price seems a bit on the high side. is that just for the first session because it would include the consultation and the treatment ?.. Because if its for "every" session and not just the first, it seems a little high to me and I am in New York :) I would double check to see if that is just for the first session, because usually the first session cost the most but then once you have the follow up sessions it should be less..Good Luck !
  • Hi metsfan,

Thank you for the info. I'm in Miami so it is pricey here but I agree that $135 is too much.
The consultation is free but since my IUI is so soon he wanted to start right away (of course).
Before he does the acupuncture, I'm going to see what kind of package deal he has. I'm already spending so much money so I don't want to spend more but at the same time, I want these IUIs to work. And all the success stories I read about seem to have a connection to acupuncture.
I will mention that typically the first session is the most and that the follow-ups should be less.
    Thanks again!
  • Dolphin...

I think my first session was 135 and then dropped to 90 or so. I was in Boston so pricing is different. Let me know how the first session goes and I will answer any questions you may have. I am trying to find a new guy.
