Post-Thaw Counts

I am so confused...I am consistently hearing posts of what the post-thaw counts are. I called my lab and they said they don't usually do post-thaw counts unless they are washing the sperm. They said the numbers from CCB are from a sample vial that they usually thaw and count to get an estimate. Is this correct?

  • Hi Natalie -

Yes. When a specmen is frozen, we also freeze another portion separate from the main vial. That second portion is then thawed and counted to determine the post-thaw count of the main vial.

The post-thaw count is included in the paperwork you receive with your specimen shipment.

    Good luck,
