Re-opening a Donor

What is the process to re-open a Donor? Can multiple families get together to split the costs? If a family starts the process and the donor does not want to re-donate do you get your money back or is there a non refundable fee? If the donor would like to re-donate do his vials become available to everybody?

Thank you for your help!

    Hi Beach -

A reactivation is when a retired donor goes through the entire qualification process again and provides additional vials for sibling use.

Only clients that have a child by the donor can request a reactivation. Reactivations are pricey and they take a long time (usually about a year).

There is a $1,500 reactivation fee and this does not include the cost of vials or storage. Each family pays the same reactivation fee. The portion you pay is only a fraction of what it actually costs to re-qualify a donor. If additional vials are released, they are only eligible to be purchased by reactivation clients. (Sometimes there may also be additional costs for donor travel expenses.)

There are no guarantees with reactivations - a donor may decide not to participate or he may not pass the qualification process.

I would encourage you to speak with Tamara at x1086. She will be able assist you further and explain what is needed to initiate the process.

    Regards,
