Donor 11842

I was wondering if there have been any successful births with donor 11842? I got pregnant with my first IUI with this sperm donor but it ended in an early miscarriage. My second and third IUI were negative but the fourth I got pregnant again. This time I carried to 16 weeks and at my appointment found the fetal heart tones absent. This came as a shock as I was feeling wonderful and not displaying any signs that something was wrong. I had a D&C to remove the fetus and am waiting for fetal tissue testing results. I hope to know what went wrong but in the meantime I was wondering if this sperm donor has has successful births or miscarriages. Thanks.

First, I'm very sorry for your losses. They are an unfortunate and all to common part of the process. As a nurse, you probably know that a surprisingly high 20-25% of all pregnancies (natural or insemination) actually end in a loss -- often before the woman even realizes she is pregnant. I only mention it so that you know what you are experiencing is not all that unusual.
Sperm is basically little more than a DNA messanger. Once it fertilizes the egg, it has virtually nothing to do with the continued success of the pregnancy. That is up to the egg and the uterus.
In rare instances, a chromosomal anomaly in the sperm's DNA can lead to a miscarriage. However, all our donors go through chromosomal analysis as a part of the regular screening process.
That said, it is not completely impossible for the sperm to negatively impact a pregnancy, it just is extremely rare. Should the fetal tissue tests reveal anything your physician feels may be related to the donor, please be sure to let us know.
If you do not feel comfortable moving forward with this donor, we can certainly exchange any vials you have in storage or help you find another option.
To answer your initial question, we do not give out live birth info on donors due to the fact that many people fail to report the actual birth of their child. The disconnect of pregnancies to births can be very misleading and lead people to assume there are far more losses than actually occur. In addition, it is a little early to expect much information on 11842 as the pregnancies he has reported are relatively recent.
If you would like more information, I recommend contacting our Genetics Department at 877-743-6384. They are happy to answer any questions you may have.
Best of luck,
