Confusion about CMV Total Antibody

Hi there. I'm a bit confused. I was told by my doctor that I'm supposed to pick somebody with CMV antibody negative, since that's what I tested as. However, some donors are negative, most are positive, and some are Positive (IgG/IgM Negative).

What is the difference between just positive and positive with IgG/IgM Negative?

Thanks for your help.

  • I would really like to know this information as well. My RE has to approve the donor I am choosing and I'm wondering if it has to do with this.
  • From my understanding Positive (IgG/IgM Negative) is a false positive. The donor was tested for the antibodies after the 1st positive and they are negative for CMV antibodies. I had this question as well and when I called they were able to explain it to me in a way that made sense because I had NO idea!
