Discouraged

Hello all. I thought it was about time to get some support from other women trying to conceive. I'm 41 and have been trying for a year now with IUI. I've had 9 inseminations within that year and nothing, despite my doctor stating all my labs are great and my folicle(sp) counts are good. I've now started going to acupuncture, massage, and chiropractor to see if anything changes. I stuck with one donor for six of my IUI's and have since changed to several different donors. My doctor tried me on progesterone in December and that went horribly wrong after two months so now I'm just on clomid. Anyone else out there having difficulty conceiving?
I haven't tried IVF because I live in Alaska and the one doctor in the state that does the procedure is very selective about his clientele aka married couples. My insurance also doesn't cover the cost and one procedure plus injections and sperm is almost 7,000 dollars.

  • Hi jfuller11, I'm in a similar situation, I am also 41 and have been trying for a little over a year, I am on my 2ww for my 9th iui, 5 with the same donor, and the rest with 2 different donors. I only had one chemical on my 2nd iui. In July I did an IVF with no success. My doctor also tells me I have a decent follicle count. For all my IUIs I was mostly on high stims and had at least from 2-4 mature follicles, and nothing. For my IVF I had 8 follicles and put back 3 embryos. I thought that was the for sure chance I would get pregnant but it didn't happen and I was very upset and felt like I could never get pregnant.

Doing the IVF definitely confirmed my egg quality is poor due to my age. I've done Chinese herbs, acupuncture, many supplements daily to improve egg quality and still nothing, sorry if you are discouraged, I am to discouraged, but I keep on trying because, I've always seen myself having children. Donor eggs might be my only true chance before this process drains us financially.

Good luck to you! I hope you can keep on trying with IUIs and get your BFP.
  • Thanks jaailu. I had my 8th and 9th IUI 6 days ago. My doctor straightened my uterus which is inverted in order to do the IUI this time. I'm hoping that helped with the swimming. I guess we will see next week. Good luck to you.
  • Going on # 10 and also getting very discouraged :( your not alone
