IVF question

Just wondering:
What type of specimen do you use for IVF insemination----IUI or ICI? Also, if you already bought an IUI speciment, can your physician be able to use that with IVF insemination?

Comments

  • In our clinic they would use it if it was already stored with them or being shipped from ccb. We could not bring it with us. We used IUI for ivf, but I think that they could use ici also.

  • How many vials of IUI specimen do you use for one IVF insemination?
  • Frances,

For IVF, all you need is the ART specimen. It has fewer active sperm, but is MORE than sufficient for what is needed for IVF.

However, quite a few of the donors only have IUI or ICI vials available. Either of these work for an IVF cycle, they just contain a LOT more than what is needed.
  • One vial per ivf is enough.
The first time we did it they had two shipped incase something was not right with the specimen or shipping. But this last time they said the one we had was enough since they new how the donor was before.
