Pregnancy after ovulation

My partner and I are presented with a dilema. I started ovulating today, I went in for a folicle ultrasound and my RN stated my egg has been released... Our specimen will arrive in our DR office tomorrow morning and we are contemplating on whether or not to try the insemination. Our RN is not a fertility specialist but states that it is possible to still conceive.

Has anyone experienced a successful pregnancy the day after ovulation started? How long is the egg actually able to be fertilized, as I am hearing anywhere from 12 to 48 hours...

Thank you
Karen and Anne

  • First of all, welcome to the boards.

I'm not sure what I would do in this case...you're in a tough spot.

This says the egg only lasts 12-24 hours...

This one had different stories, but also remember that fresh sperm lives a lot longer than frozen sperm...

Good luck in whatever decision you make and KUP!
  • I will tell you what my doc said- that the egg doesn't remain viable for longer than 24 hours at the most. If your egg was released today, its possible to still fertilize it, I guess, but it really would depend on what time it popped out. Good Luck!
  • Thank you much! We decided to go for it and inseminated on Tuesday! This was my first insemination, we are so excited! Wish us luck...
  • Good for you...it's worth a try! :) Hopefully this will be successful for you!

    Please KUP.
  • Good luck!!!! Sending lots of baby dust! Welcome to the TWW!
  • Thank you all!!! Well I am officially 7 days post IUI... The past two days I have had increased sensitivity in my breasts, lots of swelling, and today experienced the absolute worst nausea. Hmmm, Not sure if its too early to experience these symptoms. We will start testing in two days for pregnancy. Wish us luck....somethings telling me i am with child.... :o)
  • Oh, my! Those symptoms sound promising! I had the same ones and mine started about then too! So, no it's not too early!

Just my opinion here...but try not to get upset if you test at 9 dpiui and you get a negative. I started testing then too, but it was negative and I was so upset even though I knew I was testing early. I also tested at 10 dpiui and it was negative...more crying. I guess I didn't learn from the previous two days, but I decided to test again on 11 dpiui. Too our surprise, we got a BFP! Thank God! I couldn't handle any more negatives! 11 dpuiu is still real early...it takes many girls up until (and sometimes after) 14 dpiui to get their BFP!

One more thing...I know what you mean about "feeling" pregnant. I told my DP that I knew I was pregnant from about 6 dpiui..I just knew it! She thought I was crazy, but I knew my body well enough to notice the small changes, plus as weird as it sounds, I just felt motherly.

    Good luck and KUP!
  • Im so glad I am not the only one!!! I have already gone through 3 boxes of pregnancy test (one in the morning/one at night)...and again, I know its too early to detect on the HPT...But woman will be woman I suppose. lol.... Well, tomorrow, day 8, Im hoping for the "YES"....

I cannot wait, and thank you for the good luck wishes....I will keep posting!!

    Karen
  • Nope, you're not the only one! I hope today brings you the BFP!

    BFP, BFP, BFP!
  • I hear you ladies! Best of luck Kanda...
I'm testing daily at 11dpIUI and have scheduled blood work at 14dpiui.

Symptoms started when I felt myself ovulate...have had pressure closer to the left side of my uterus. I have been hungry every 2 hrs and talk about body heat...my Lord...nobody wants to get around me because I can fry bacon from a distance with this heat generating from me. Breaking into sweats, nightly tossing and turning, woke up last night at 2 or 3am ready to clean house. So instead a drank a cold glass of milk which is another thing...I can't get enough of it. I've also been feeling small waves of nausea upon rising out of bed, before I eat, when I eat and after I eat.

If I am one of the lucky ones to be pregnant...I'm loving every one of the symptoms I've mentioned. : )
  • Hello all....
Unfortunately yesterday was day 12piui and still negative. I have so much nausea over the past few days, increased hunger, breasts swelled a cup size...yes a CUP SIZE... lol.... and well yesterday started my period... I am pretty confused and sad today. But I need to dust myself off and get ready for next thursday... having another folicle ultrasound and hopefully she can stimulate ovulation and shoot for another insemination next friday.
  • kandafisher...Oh, dear...I'm so sorry. It's so crazy how we have all the symptoms and still get a BFN! I'm glad you're jumping right back in though. Good luck with your next cycle...here's you a virtual hug...[squeeze]
  • kandafisher- I am so sorry this wasn't the one! I know that confused feeling all too well. Twice I have done IUIs and twice I have had symptoms, and twice I thought for sure I was pregnant. Now we are getting ready to try again. It seems like each time gets harder...I though it would be the other way around. I don't know. What I do know is that we're gonna keep trying. We may be doing our next IUI on Friday as well...good luck and baby dust to both of us!
  • Hello all... well i will be attempting the iui again on friday.... hope it all goes well.
  • Yeah! That's wonderful news! May this be your last TWW!!!!!!

Baby Dust and prayers to you and yours.
  • I'm going to be making this recommendation a lot... use progesterone cream while you're in your TWW... I think that it can't hurt. If that level is low, I think you end up with all the symptoms but the lining isn't thick enough to support implantation. I know that I'm using it and you're supposed to stop the day before AF is supposed to come. I feel that it can't hurt...
  • Well, I went in for my second IUI-FSP on Sunday August 2nd and yesterday were 12 days PIUI and we tested positive!!! I tested again this morning, and positive again!! We are absolutely thrilled to say the least. Thank you all for all of your positive feedback, it really helped a lot to boast my spirits as this has been an emotional "wait". :o)
  • Great news congrats!!! Keep us posted on how things are doing!! Kelly
  • kandafisher....Yea! Congratulations! I told you that this was your last TWW! :)

    KUP on your progress!
  • Kanda: YAY!! Glad you got your BFP!! I just had my second IUI today so I'm back in this... I feel like I ovulated yesterday evening while I was at work... I had this sharp pain on my left side in my back which was gone this morning... usually back strain (a hazard in my work field) I still have the next morning.
