ordering freshest specimen

When we order our vials online, how do we go about specifying that we would like the freshest specimen not the oldest? I know you all say that the date doesnt' matter, but even our fertility specialist was surprised last month when we showed up with a specimen dated May 2004. I want to purchase another vial for this month but want to make sure I get the freshest sample available. Do I have to call for that?

    Hi viceroy -

Since our donors are only in the program for a limited time, all donations occur around the same general time frame. So, even if you could select the "most recent" donation (which we can't really do), it wouldn't be significantly different from "the oldest". More inportantly, I promise you there is no scientific evidence to suggest the duration sperm is frozen has any impact on a potential pregnancy. As long as the total motility meets the required guarantee, a ten year old vial is the same as a ten month old vial.

While there is a difference between fresh sperm (which survives up to 72 hours after insemination) and frozen/thawed sperm (which lasts 24-48 hours), frozen is frozen no matter how long.

I hope this sets your mind at ease.

    Best of luck!
