Question about count and motility

Hi, My wife and I are planning to try insemination in the next few months, and CC was recommended to us. I'm just wondering if CC provides any information about sperm count and motility for donors. I know a lot of sperm banks offer these numbers, and I was told to be aware of places that don't offer the numbers. I noticed that it was not listed when searching for donors, and it doesn't seem to be an option if I bought a more expensive subscription package. I think my wife and I have narrowed down our search to one donor we like, but we are unsure if we should proceed without the info about count and motility. As long as it is over 15 million, that will be fine, but 20 million + is preferable. Is there any way to find out this information?

  • Hi Alysun –

    Congrats on starting the process!

Yes, we do provide information about our specimen quality on our website: http://cryobank.com/Why-Use-Us/Specimen-Quality-Standards/

Our vial standards are based on total motile sperm concentration (motility x count). A washed IUI vial will contain at least 10 million motile sperm per vial (0.5 mL). An ICI vial will contain at least 15 million motile sperm per vial (1.0 mL).

Please keep in mind that over the last 20 years, numerous studies have shown that when using donor sperm for an IUI, anything greater than 5 million motile sperm does not improve the pregnancy outcome. Our vial standards are set generously above this mark.

Also, if you haven’t done so already, please feel free to checkout our video about our donor qualification process: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NurCUuZaa1c
The initial donor qualification process includes performing repeated semen analyses and freeze-thaw analyses to confirm that the potential donor consistently produces a high quality specimen.

Less than 1% of applicants actually become CCB donors. I'm not sure which donor is your favorite, but the fact that he made it through our extensive screening process signifies that his specimen quality is in the top 15-20% of the male population.
