IUI #2 June 29

Had ultrasound today and tech said I had two good follicles on my right ovary -- she called them "players."

Doc is having me trigger tonight and has scheduled my IUI for Saturday morning.

Last time I had only one follicle on my right ovary. Apparently my left ovary is lazy and is making the right one do all the work.

I feel really positive, healthy and happy. Visualizing and praying for myself and for all of you wonderful women on this same journey.

  • Amy good luck on Sat. The only thing I suggest is to go out on Friday night have a glass of wine or a drink so you will be less stressed. I actually went out for a martini on the night I had my IUI. I should have known, but that was the last drink I had until Oct of last year (I think). I have had less then 10 drinks in 18 months and I do not miss it. One in a blue moon and yes I am still nursing.

Keep us up to date, try and keep busy for the next two weeks it will help pass the time.
  • Amy, good luck. Sending loads of prayers and sticky baby dust. Keep us posted.
  • Hi Amy, any news yet? Did you breakdown and poas? FX'd for you.
  • Sorry for the delay, but I wanted to make sure everything was on track before I told you all.

I'm preggers! Found out with an HPT on Saturday. Positives Sunday and Monday, too. Then had my beta on Monday. Good numbers

I'm so excited! Now I just have to make it until Aug. 5 and I'll have my 7-week ultrasound and get to see the teeny baby growing inside me.

Nervous about miscarriage, but trying to live positively and optimistically. I keep sending light and love to my little one.

    How is everyone else doing?

  • Congrats Amy!
Hi, I had my first IUI on July 29th with clomid. I went in on the 29th they gave me the trigger and an hour later did my first IUI went back 24 hours and had my 2nd. BFN! :(
I am getting ready for my second try now. Any suggestions?
  • Hi daizies,

So sorry to hear about your BFN. It's heartbreaking. Try to remember that even for couples at the prime of their fertility, it's still a crapshoot whether they get pregnant in any particular month. And stay positive!

I don't have any expert advice to offer. I can only tell you what I did. I had acupuncture leading up to my IUIs, including having it 24-36 hours before the procedure. I think it made me healthier and more receptive and it also took care of a lot of my anxiety.

The only other thing I did (besides taking prenatals, resting, eating right, etc.) is lots of positive visualization. I visualized the sperm and the egg meeting. I visualized the fertilized blastocyst making its way down my fallopian tube and implanting in my uterus. And I would visualize my uterus being filled with warm, golden light -- as a place that a baby would want to grow. And last, I believed. I believed with all my heart both times that it worked. Made it harder on me when I got my first BFN, but I think positive energy really makes a difference.

Sending you lots of baby dust,
    Amy, 42

  • I'm right behind you, due April 2014! It was my fifth IVF. Last cycle got PG but miscarried after a HB (at 8.5wks) so I'm not truly letting this one sink in yet.
  • Thanks Amy, I am working on finding an acupuncture appointment now. I am worried that I am not going to get an appointment in time. Today is day 3 on clomid and next week I go for my IUI. How often do you go for acupuncture?
Did you take a trigger? I have read that most women on the forums wait a day after the trigger and my RE had me take it the day of my IUI.

I really hope this works this time last time I was positive that it worked so, when I got my BFN it was hard. trying to keep positive though!

    Thank you
    Liz
  • Hi Lizzy,
I am on the exact same schedule. I had my first IUI on July 29th (with clomid, trigger shot the day before) and the 2nd IUI the day after.
Now I am trying on my second cycle. Same medication, Clomid, and the trigger shot the day before. This time my doctor wants me to have a higher progesterone level a week after the IUIs.
I also made my first acupuncture appointment for this Tuesday (probably 4 days before 1st IUI) and then probably another one the day of the IUI (most likely Saturday as I seem to be very regular).
I keep reading that women who do acupuncture have success stories so I am going to try that. It is expensive but I am only giving myself 3 cycles this year due to cost and timing so I'm trying everything.
Let's keep each other posted since we seem to be on the same cycle.
Lucky baby dust for all of us!
    Kate
Ps. If anyone has more information on acupuncture and the timing of it for IUIs please let me know. Should it be done before, after, or in between the 2 IUIs? And how often during a cycle?
    Thanks so much!
  • Dolphin I commented on your other post, but acupuncture takes some time. so start now and keep it up.

I have been doing acupuncture for years. When I told my acupuncturist that I wanted to get pregnant he started prepping my body for this. I started in Nov about 3 months before i got pregnant. It is an entire mind body experience he treats my mind and body. I went probably every 2 weeks and when I had my IUI, I just happened to have an appt that afternoon with him. He was a single practitioner and I made my appts about 3 weeks in advance. It just so happened to fall on that day. Once I found out I was pregnant I went the entire pregnancy and continued with it up until 3 weeks ago when I moved out of state. I am in the process of looking for a new one.

He has gotten several woman pregnant that I have sent him and they continue through out the pregnancy. When you go and see the acupuncturist see what they say, ask a lot of questions, ask about moving points. They should stay away from those points and certain points in the feet. These points can cause miscarriages and premature labor. Not trying to scare you but this is how you can tell if they are good or not.

Questions let me know. I love and miss my acupuncturist. He was more than that to me and my son. Good luck.
  • Hi Kate

I had my first acupuncture Saturday. I am going again tonight for my second. The acupuncturist told me to try to get as many sessions in before my IUI and try to come the day of my IUI. I was very happy with the results of the first session, my tension and stress levels came down right away. His cost is $75. per visit and he said he would like me in there atleast 3 times before my IUI. I also spoke with another woman that I really wanted to work with however, she is moving her practice.
I have been taking prenatals for about 3 months now hoping that will help. I started 100mg of clomid on Wed. the 14th and finished on Sunday. I start OPK tomorrow keeping my fingers crossed everything goes right this time! Trying to keep positive but very anxious and stressed.
    Baby dust to all!

  • Kate,

I just tested this morning and I show high fertility so tomorrow I should be at peak and going for my IUI! How are you doing? If you want to e-mail me my e-mail is daizies79@hotmail.com
    Baby dust to all!

  • Hi all,

I can't say enough positive things about acupuncture. It really relieved my stress and prepared my body for becoming pregnant.

Don't stress if you are getting a late start on it. Anissa is right that it is ideal to start early, but I didn't have my first appointment until two weeks before my first IUI. I just kept going. Once more the following week and then the day before my IUI. Then when I got a BFN on that one, I continued going. I also stuck with it after I got pregnant to make sure that the baby "sticks."

My acupuncturist told me that studies have shown that women who have more hands-on treatment by medical providers in their first trimester have a far lower incidence of miscarriage. I don't want to take any chances. Plus, the acupuncture makes me feel healthier.

Sending you all lots of love, light and baby dust.

  • babyin2014, do you know the sex of your baby? just curious and happy for you
  • Sweety,

Not yet. Am very curious. Would be happy with either, but would love to know. Still have a couple months to wait.

  • Hi Liz,

Sorry for the delayed response. I've been a bit nervous!
I go in for my pregnancy blood test tomorrow.
Still no period but I have had light pink spotting on the toilet paper occasionally.

Everything went really well with the IUIs. The timing felt right.

I didn't end up doing the acupuncture bc it was so expensive and the timing was difficult. My first IUI was on a Sunday and the 2nd on a Monday where I had to go to work right after.

If I need to do a 3rd cycle, I will do the acupuncture.

Let me know how you are doing.

Hopefully we will both be pregnant at the same time!

  • Wow, thats exciting. Hopefully, its implantation bleeding. Good luck, let us know how it goes. Are you actually late on your period?
  • Hi Sweety,

So I got a negative blood test result but I still don't have my period which is bizarre. It is only a day late but I don't even feel like I am getting it.
    There was no spotting today.

Is it possible to have a negative blood test result and still not get your period?

I am very confused. I am usually very regular and i always get my period.

I will probably call my doctor on Monday but if anyone has an answer to this, it would be much appreciated!!!

    Thanks so much,
    Kate

Ps. The light pink spotting (only on the toilet paper) started last Monday and was very intermittent. Only about once every other day.
  • So sorry to hear Kate. My guess your period could be late due to the meds you were on, especially if you were on progesterone. That can delay your period. I would guess you would have your period within the next 2-3 days. Good luck the next time around.
  • Hi Kate,

We were on the same schedule! I got my blood test back today and same results BFN. :(
I did do the acupuncture before my IUI and did get a lot of relaxation from it but apparently it did not help me.

I still do not have my period either. Last IUI I had my period before I even went in for my blood test.

What is your plan going forward? Are you going to try a 3rd IUI or are you going to try IVF or just wait? I would really like to try again but my donor is sold out and money is getting tight now. So, I was thinking of waiting until maybe next year and trying an IVF cycle and a different donor.

    Disappointed

  • Hi Becky,
Possibly . . . I was on Clomid and I had an ovidrel shot the day before. But I didn't have to take any progesterone b/c it was high already when they tested a week ago (23).
I really don't feel like I'm going to get my period.
But the nurse said I will.
In any event, I'm going in for another blood test and an ultrasound just to get an idea of when my period is coming (if it is). It may be redundant but I need some peace of mind!

    And Liz,
I feel your pain. It is hard getting the BFN for the 2nd time. We really were on the exact same schedule. For my last IUI, I had my period before I went in for my blood test. And this time, it is nowhere to be found.

I am going to do it one more cycle (I bought enough sperm to do it one more time). And if it doesn't work, I will probably wait until next year. But I will be 37 so my egg count will probably drop. I may go right to IVF if I have the money. Not sure if you can do that with frozen sperm but I don't want to keep doing IUIs if it is expensive and it is not working!

Let me know what you decide to do.
Maybe we can be on the same cycle again!

    Feeling your disappointment,
    Kate
