Donor birth weight

Hello. Does it list anywhere in the donor profile how much the donor weighed at birth? Just curious about that. If it doesn't list it, can I get that piece of info somehow?

  • Hi Christy -

I'm sorry, but we do not collect that information.

  • Has CCB ever considered collecting the birth weight of the donor? I only ask because my partner was a big baby when she was born (8 lb 14 1/2 oz) and we just wonder if her birth weight mixed with the donor birth weight could produce a big baby for us.

    Thanks,

  • Hi K&K -

Here's some information from one of our genetic counselors regarding birth weight:

Collecting the donor’s birth weight information would not help to predict the size of a client's future offspring. There are many factors that can contribute to determining a baby’s birth weight including maternal nutrition and health problems such as diabetes. Genetic factors such as parental stature and ethnicity contribute to the baby’s development but other factors such as the placental function, the baby’s gender, possibly the birth order (first baby vs. third baby), the mother’s smoking behavior, etc. can all have an impact.

It’s important to have regular prenatal care so that your healthcare provider can monitor your baby’s development and address any concerns about low or high birth weight should they occur.

    Regards,
