ages

Without getting too personal (although I think we've passed that at this point)....I was wondering what some ages were of other single mothers trying IUI. I am 34.

  • I just turned 33, and am in my first "testing" month. I had my first consult with my RE on 12/5, and have had cd3 and cd10 ultrasounds. And I go back on cd24 for the progesterone test and to find out if my RE thinks I need a hysteroscopy. I had a lap back in Aug, but my OBGYN didn't know then I was considering IUI so she didn't do the dye test to check if my tubes are open. My RE says that he thinks it is better to check for all possible inhibitors first since I've never tried to get pregnant before. I'm not sure if that is the "norm" though.
  • I am 35. I considered waiting a few more years but I wanted to see if IUI would work and give myself time for a second child in 3 or 4 years if it did. I also have PCOS. I don't ovulate on my own, so I could have never gotten pregnant without some help. But I didn't know what until I started this process.
  • sorry, what is PCOS? is that polycystic? I have that as well but have very regular periods so my doctor didn't think it would be an issue. My right ovary produced 21 follicles last month.
  • I was 39 when I did my first IUI. My RE also wanted to do the dye test (HSG) before the IUI, and I agreed because it is pointless to put sperm in there if there is a blockage. Some people don't do it for various reasons.
  • Turning 41 in March and just started trying for the first time in my life. I did all possible testing, all was good except for discovering one ovarian cyst, but that seemed to be no concern at this point. So we did the first unmedicated IUI last week. Good luck all!
  • PCOS is polycystic. My periods are extremely regular too (every 28 days exactly) but after trying for 2 or 3 months, I never got a surge on an ovulation kit. My doctor did several sonograms and blood tests around the time ovulation should take place and realized I never ovulated. Even taking Femara in November, I had one extremely mature follicle and a few smaller ones. I skipped December, but just started my rounds of Femara again today. My doctor doubled my dose to see if it would produce more follicles. I have a sonogram scheduled for 1/12 to see if it works. IUI should be around 1/14.
  • I was 38 when I got pregnant and 39 when I gave birth!
  • I am 35. I have had 4 unmedicated IUIs and moved on to Clomid for this round. My next IUI will be some time next week. :-)
  • good luck eeh876!
i start clomid tomorrow and am expecting to have my 2nd IUI the week of the 16th.
  • I'm 42. Not exactly single, at least for now. My husband does not agree with a donor. We have been together 10 years and he is finally ready to try. He has a 13 yr old vasectomy so we had to try IVF but I didn't respond to the meds enough to try a transfer. (that was after I had surgery to remove a septum in my uterus) Now he says I will have to go it alone if I want to try a donor because he cant bear to raise a child that is not his. I'm trying anyway, even though he might leave me (I'm hoping he will change his mind) I have been getting hot flashes since I made this decision too. Ugh, what a journey!

I have had all the tests done. I have high fsh and will be trying IUI using Golal F shots...ugh the shots again! But I feel I am rounding the corner of "Too Late!" I was already told less than 1% chance I could have my own children but that was before I was able to drop my fsh from 21.6 to 13 in only a few weeks. Thing is I am the healthiest 42 year old I know. I am a ballerina and eat organic, meditate and get acupuncture twice a week. I am actually trying to gain weight! I even look like I would be 32 so I am having such a hard time giving up.

Sorry I went on a tangent! Good luck to everyone out there, don't let anyone tell you cant have your own family if that is what you want!

    Love and blessings to all!
  • I failed to mention also that my husband is not interested in any other family option. I would be willing to use a donor egg or adopt but those are not options he can accept either.
  • I'll be 39 next month. Just made up my mind I wanted to do this and just jumped right in. Started clomid today, ordering sperm tomorrow (12623) for iui (hopefully) this month. Don't see any reason I can't be one of those lucky ducks who get pregnant first time. (I'm trying to be positive.) sure wish I had started this a few years ago, but I was still thinking "maybe I'll meet the one next year." Now I'm excited and scared and stressing about money. I'm worried I will go so broke conceiving the kid I won't be able to afford to raise him/her in the lifestyle I enjoy. It's worth it, right??
  • shonarb 73,
I just started this process to.. I have an appointment with my RE ( I just learned that term :p) next Monday...(freaking out)
Since the 1st I've been picking up overtime hours not only to make extra money but to bank some "saved" time so that when My baby does get here I have time to stay home...! ( i to, am hopeful that i get pregnant 1st time around) fingers X! I get a nervous/anxious feeling just thinking about it.. I'm so excited!!! Good luck to you, I look forward to reading your updates!!
  • shonarb73 - i totally get the stressing about money part!!! luckily I am getting some help from my parents, but even thinking about the cost of raising a child is scary. I went over my bank statement for ALL of 2011 to see how much I spend that I could cut out and it was amazing how much there was!
  • lomalinda,

Wow!! I hope everything works out for you. I am glad you are doing what is right for you, and I hope your husband comes around.

And shonarb73, I too am stressed about money but I know I will find a way to make it work. I keep telling myself that people make less than I do and they work it out, so I can too.
  • It's so great to hear others having the same concerns! I know I can totally afford all of it, it's just I've never had to worry about a budget before and it cramps my style a bit. Wah wah.

I finally got my cycle day 3 fsh level back and it was 9. Does that sound borderline high to anyone else?
