Recent success with Black or mixed donors?

Hi all-

The hubby has no sperm, so we have to go with a donor. Considering the following donors, but its hard to narrow them down:

13762
14288
14335
14277
13619
14325
13832
14133
14316
14013

Anyone have recent success with any of the above? Will be trying IUI in October (first time, don't have any kids yet). I feel like the donor-look-alikes given are subjective, and children dont always look like their parents. The donors above all align with my blood type. How else do we go about chopping the candidates down?

  • Yes, I have! I used donor 13832 and got a BFP on April 11th. I used this donor only once and worked right away. I did a medicated IUI March 31st. Honestly, I didn't think it would work because the fertility clinic said this donor only had 5mil sperm. But it worked first try so I'm very happy. I'm due Dec. 21st with a baby girl.

I tried 3 other times doing an IUI before with a different donor and it didn't work.
  • I haven't used any of these donor but in terms of narrowing down, the biggest thing that helped me was listening to the audio interviews. I felt like that gave me the best sense of who they were as a person and what they might be contributing to a child. That said, the ultimate decider for me was the health history. If there was someone I liked a lot but he had a poor family health history (lots of cancer, or particularly addiction or mental illness) I crossed him off the list.

What might help too, is to start with one or two must have characteristics to cut your list down. For me I wanted a minimum height of at least 6' and that he be creative in some way. Then I looked at pictures and read bios, health histories, and audio interviews. I knew who my choice was as soon as I heard him speak.

Like the previous poster, I also got pregnant with just 5 million sperm, so don't worry about that. Good luck!
  • Thanks for the info!
  • i'm in the process of choosing a donor. i can't be impregnated by my partner extremely low sperm count with no mature sperms seen. i've narrowed down my search to 2 donors. i don't think i can take anymore disappointing news. its been 11yrs now.
  • more particularly donor 14288, this fits the profile of my partner more than 14133.
  • We decided to go with donor 14316. We were torn between 2 choices, but decided to go with the one who had similar facial features based on the 3 pictures provided. We are going to be starting the IUI process next week!
  • I know this is a long shot, but does any one on here have stored vials of donor 13762 at CCB they do not plan to use?
  • We used 14316!
