First try in week :) any helpful hints?

Hi ladies, my partner and I will be doing our first try at ici at home in about a week. Anyone have any helpful hints to make this more comfortable and a success ?

I'm 33, with no medical issues, and have been on prenatals for almost 3 months. I've also been using ovulation tests to track when I ovulate.

I'm thinking if we do the insemination 2 days prior to ovulation we have a better chance to conceive first try. However if anyone has hints we would greatly appreciate them. :) thanks Liz

  • From what I've read they recommend the day of your LH surge to do the insemination which is closer to the day before you ovulate. Frozen sperm only live 12-24 hours at the most and I know ideally the sperm is in the fallopian tubes when you ovulate. So, if you are inseminating a full 48 hours before you ovulate, it might be too early.

That being said, we're on our 4th IUI with no luck so far. So what do I know. :-P I've read and read and read and prepared myself (it's my partner who is actually the one being inseminated) for all scenarios and it has made no difference. I have some friends who I don't think even knew what a fallopian tube (and she only has one ovary) who managed to get pregnant.

So my advise to you? Don't stress out too much about the process. It seems like the people who get pregnant the first time are sooooo laid back. If 2 days prior to ovulation feels right? Maybe it is.

    Best of luck to you!!

  • Hi ladies,

Best of luck to you both. My gf and I just tried our first attempt this past Saturday... fingers crossed that this works ! We did it the night of her LH surge.. the books and research I read says it is best the day of, 12hours or so within the surge.
I have to say we were kinda of surprised how little the vial was and what a small amount of 'sperm' we had to work with, but just praying they make it up to the fallopian tube and get fertilized!
So we're gonna try not to stress and see what happens in a couple weeks! I'll keep you posted if you want!
    Good luck!

  • I'm getting ready for IUI #3 and I'm still looking for whatever it is that's gonna give me the edge. I've had friends (who are a few years younger) that mangaged to get pregnant their first try, one friend (my age) that it took 13 attempts and another who didn't get pregnant 'til attempt #17. Last time I incorporated some acupuncture into my regimen to "destress me" - not sure if it did anything, but it's worth a try, I'd do it again. This time, I'm thinking meditation and just a good ol' positive attitude. :) Good luck!
  • We are planning our first try for September or October...I am super excited and my partner is going crazy as I wanted to chart several months of ovulation beforehand! We have two girls from her previous marriage, 12 and 15 and both of them are just about as excited as we are. The 12 year old has a very good (and scary) track record for making predictions and she has said she will be getting twin brothers. Hoping we shall see about that very soon!
