follicle size at trigger and IUI time? Please share your success experience!

Hi, all,
I am now doing donor iui with natural cycles.
My first IUI: u/s one follicle 17mm at 9 am, trigger the same night at 11 pm and iui after 36 hours. It turned out to be spotting on 11dpiui;
The current one I am on now: u/s 20 mm follicle at 9 am, trigger the same night at 10:30 pm, will do iui tomorrow morning after ~36 hrs.
I am now terrifying that my follicle is too big to trigger and I have to wait for 36 hrs for iui.
Also, after trigger last night, I believe I had my natural LH surge this morning. Normally I will ovulate tomorrow, but I don’t know whether the trigger will accurate ovulation today?
What do you think my chances are? Did anyone have experience to trigger at follicle size over 20 mm?
Thanks!

  • We are in the same boat, hun. I had me natural cycle iui on 5/3 and im in 2wk wait. My ovulation kit says i had LH on two nights before? Im just following the doctor. Its very confusing. Hopefully, the trigger shot does its job and Releases the egg in time for IUI. I think over 20mm is fine, you should be ok. Mine was 18mm and 36 hours later iui. But 20 should be fine. I have heard of 24 mm follicles getting pregnant. If you dont mind, how old are you? And is your Amh levels good? Im 36 with low amh. Are you in 2wk wait?
  • Hi, sweety!
I had some spotting today, so I think it is a failure again!
    So disappointing:(

I am 29, and my amh is not low (3.4?).

I really don't know how many times it would take to success. Very desperate now
  • Don't be discourage until you see AF.
Some people get spotting with implantation.

Through monitoring with OK my peak is normally day 12. My dr had me go in on day 13. I had a follicle that was 20 but bloodwork should estrogen too low, I went back day 15, I had a different follicle that was 18 that we didn't see and my estrogen was much higher, they wanted the follicle to grow another day so I did my trigger on a Friday morning at 7am, IUI on both Sat and Sun at 9am.

I am only on day 3 so I'm trying to remain hopeful. Have you taken a PT?
  • got AF today.....
    Failed again!
I don't see how this even possibly work.....
  • :( do you think the IUI is to late or do you think it is early? Will you consider IVF?
  • KBT, I have no clue.
I do feel ovulation pain 12 hour after iui.
My Doc didn't agree to check whether I O'ed before iui.

I have no issues that is why I feel horrible if I need to do ivf.
    I don't know,,,, so hard
  • Don't feel horrible if IVF is needed to help put the little one in your arms. To me it would be just as easy to check for ovulation prior to IUI, I wonder if there is a med reason why.

I know it's easier said than done, but don't give up. I've heard some people changed donors and it worked, have you considered that
  • 20mm is not too big at all! Sounds like a perfect size!
Do you take your temps each morning..it's the best way to know if you did ovulate, as the temp will rise the day after you ovulate.
  • The time I got my bfp, my follicle was 17 in the morning. The doc thought it wasn't ready yet and I wouldn't surge for another 1.5-2 days but that night I got the smiley face on my OPK and I triggered. I had my IUI 34 hours later. It turned out to be a chemical pregnancy, but my doctor thinks this is because it was likely tubal, and has nothing to do with the timing or follicle size.

I think timing is the most important thing, not follicle size. It's when your body is naturally ready to release your egg that you should trigger nd inseminate, not before then just because the follicle looks good.
  • Hi, everyone,
    Thanks for encouraging words!

The donor we picked is the only one we love!
We don't want to change him! We've decided to give more times to try! Keep my figure crossed and hope for the coming one will be the BFP!
  • Mine was 29
