Thinking about it

I am just starting to think about having a baby on my own. 36 and want kids. Where do I begin? My gynogologist gave me a brochure for a fertility clinic in town. Does medical insurance cover the doctor visits or is everything our of pocket?

  • If you are close to a big city, research the fertility clinics in your area. Then, make an appointment for a consultation. They will give you all of the information you need and you can ask all kinds of questions. The consult was $250 for me. I went into this knowing that my insurance would not cover any of the fertility costs. Your insurance might cover some things, so you should check. Do some research online too and start thinking about a plan for yourself. Mine was that I was going to try 3 IUI unmedicated, then 2 IUI medicated, then IVF. You have to have an idea of what you can do financially too and everyone is different. Good luck!
  • I went to an IVF center and did not like the "Business" I found a doctor in the city that I live that does not charge to much. Insurance does not cover it, but then again I have change my insurance. If you are in MA I can give you the name of the guy that I am going to.
  • Take the time and do your research. My insurance will pay for my doctors visits and blood work but not the IUI. Call your insurance company and they can tell you what they will pay. They can also tell you what meds they will pay for. Don't get overwhelmed find a clinic you feel comfortable with and ask lots of questions.
