Hot Bath

I am wondering does anybody know the reason why pregnant woman should not take hot bath? How would it affect the baby? Does it affect the baby if the mother is only 1 week or 2 weeks pregnant?

  • I was told a really hot bath or a hot tub were dangerous because they would raise your body tempurature which isn't good for the baby. Not sure about the 1 or 2 week pregnant part though.
  • smallinin,

Here is part of an article I saw on babycenter.com

"There's no evidence to suggest that heat affects a woman's eggs, but we do know that hot tubs and saunas aren't recommended during pregnancy. Some studies show that raising your body temperature during early pregnancy increases the risk of birth defects, and a 2003 study found that women who used hot tubs early in pregnancy were twice as likely to miscarry. If you really want to play it safe, skip the hot tub for now or limit visits to the weeks just prior to ovulation".

It doesn't mention hot baths, but I imagine the same goes since a tub bath is almost as warm as a hot tub.
