IUI #3 this month. Also, appealing the insurance companies to waive the wait for IVF.

This month is cycle #3 of IUI I am going through it but not hopeful. My estrogen levels barely went up last month. I am in the process of appealing the insurance companies so that I do not have to wait the full year. IF this month is negative and I don't get the IVF approval in time my doctor wants me to try Clomid next month. I am so afraid of Clomid

  • I have used Clomid 7 times, it seems to be the least medication with issues for me. I do make 2-4 follicles with clomid. I am moving on to injectibles for my 8th IUI. I can move to IVF as soon as I loose 20 more pounds. I wouldn't be afraid of clomid. If you make to many follicles you can make the decision not to IUI.
  • What height are you and what weight do you have to hit before they approve it?
  • Clomid was my dream drug and worked great for me. I got pregnant with twins first iui on clomid but lost one twin first trimester. We had one healthy baby girl. Second iui we got twins again on clomid and both of those stuck giving us 2 boys. I will use clomid again for this iui and have had no issues with it. One thing to know is that if you take it day 3-7 you will get more follicles but with lower quality. If you take it day 5-9 you will get high quality follicles but probably not as many. If you just want to increase your chances then 3-7 is the way to go. If you have had issues with miscarriage or implantation the 5-9 is usually recommended. At least that is what my fertility specialist said and they get awesome results.
  • I should add that I have heard there is a slight in erase in multiples with day 3-7. That is what I did both times and each time got 3 follicles.
  • I am 5'1" and I weigh around 195. The issue is that the Dr doesn't have hospital privileges so its all done in the office they say its to risky. My insurance wont pay for any other office in my area. Kinda stuck losing weight.

I have already dropped 12 pounds, about 20 more to go.
  • jjr3- Thank you this is so insightful especially regarding the differences in days. I work in oncology and I know there isn't a direct link but there is literature out there regarding clomid and ovarian cancer. That is why I do not want to take it. My doctor says I shouldn't be worried about it.
Nisedm - congrats on the 12lbs keep going you will get to the 20lbs. Have you tried the Paleo diet (clean eating)? It is a lot of prep but the weight will just melt off.
I got my 3rd IUI today officially entering the tww. I have an appointment with MD this week she will write a formal IVF plan for me then send to insurance. WE are sure they are going to deny it. When they do I can appeal and my job will back me.
