Anyone starting their 1st IVF soon?

Just looking for people in a similar situation. I have a pre IVF consult with my RE this Friday, and pending insurance approval will be starting my 1st IVF cycle asap. I've done every kind of IUI for a total of 8 without any luck.
If anyone's starting soon, let me know! Looking for people to go down this road with!

  • Hi Christina, I am not going down that road right now, but I just got done with that road. I just like you tried every IUI in the book and nothing. We tried 8 times and then moved on to IVF and it took the first time. I am willing to share any information I have with you it is a lonely road by yourself. I am now the proud mom of a little 6 month old boy named Trenton and I enjoy him so much and all that your about to go threw is so worth it!!!!

  • We have a similar story. 8 IUI tries, small case of endometriosis, and every flavor of meds. Going through our first IVF process, and will be doing the egg retrieval sometime next week. Kelly, did you transfer one embryo or two? We are transferring two, but by no means are we hoping for twins. We are prepared for having multiples but for the health of all involved, one would be ideal.
  • Thanks for the response Kelly.
L&C - We already know we'll be transferring two embryos when the time comes. Like you I'm not trying to have twins but want to give myself the best shot for one healthy baby. Good luck with your retrieval and transfer!

I'm starting my lupron on Monday, I'm guessing my ER and transfer will be the end of the month.
  • Hi,

I'm starting my 1st IVF (alone) tomorrow morning. I have been on Lupron, Human Growth Hormone and Testerone for the past 2 weeks. I start all the stims tomorrow with ER/Transfer around 4/16. I tried IVF once last year with my ex (didn't work...the IVF OR him lol)

I decided to divorce him and go it alone..so here I am. :-) Never thought I would be using donor sperm, but then again I never expected to be 39 and doing IVF alone! I have stage IV endo and have tried IUI's etc off and on for the past 11 years.

I have to decide on my donor tonight. I can't decide between 12061 (love his sweetness, desire for cards each year and wanting to meet child in future) and 12251 (smart, cute and has great swimmers according to blog). Such a tough decision!

Good luck and I hope to hear of success from everyone. :-)
  • Our retrieval was on Tuesday. Out of the 12, 10 were mature and 7 were fertilized. Doc told the wife that our donor had very poor quality sperm. They separated the strong swimmers and used those. Doc seemed pleased with the number and quality of fertilized eggs. Our transfer will be on either Friday or Sunday. Good luck to all of you.
  • hello great to hear about the 7 fertilized eggs that is great. We used two of our embryos and only one took which was great we had one healthy little boy.
good luck to all of you keep us posted on your progress!!!

  • I am strongly considering IVF, I have had a total of 11 IUIs. The 7th resulted in a pregnancy that ended at the 4th month. I have also tried 3 natural cycles. Needless to say this is really taking a toll on me, and today I am deeply depressed. I will have to pay for IVF out-of-pocket if I do it. I'm just not sure what to think anymore. This seems so impossible (becoming a mom). I never would have thought it would be so hard.
  • Smaciegracie Don't give up I so understand what you are going through. We saved money for two years knowing that fertility was going to cost a lot of money by the time we got done with 8 IUI's we were out of money. We had to pay for everything out of pocket insurance would not pay for anything. I would suggest looking around for a shared risk program if you do IVF it takes a lot of the pressure off your shoulders and also gives you multiple chances. There are even some programs that guarantee a take home baby. We did not use that program we could not afford to plus the only one I found was in Texas and we live in CA. We used one that we had to have a least a healthy three month pregnancy to be cancelled out of the program. It gave us three chances with IVF and we were successful the first try I think it was because I was not as stressed knowing if if did not work we got two more chances. Good luck!!! Now that I have him the debt that I am in for choosing IVF is so worth it I don't even think about it anymore.

  • L&C - How are things going? How many embryos did you put back? Have you had your beta yet?

smaciegracie - Sorry you're feely depressed and discouraged. Maybe IVF is worth a try in your case. Do they know why you miscarried at 4 months. Hang in there.

I started my stims this past Saturday and will go for my first follicle check on Thursday. I can't wait to see how many follies are growing in there!
  • Things look great so far. Doc transferred an A+ and A- embryo. Got a positive this past weekend and have gone in for two beta tests resulting in growing numbers. 14 dpt beta #128 and 16 dpt beta #372. U/S will be in two weeks. It doesn't seem real just yet! Hope the meds are being kind to you :)
  • L&C that's great news! It definitely gives me hope. Tomorrow is my egg retrieval! I'm both excited and nervous.
  • Hi, thanks cholland and christina.

Cholland- which program did you use? I am looking at a program in texas.

Christina- I had pre term labor, my water broke. I went on bedrest two weeks and then lost him.

I'm feeling a little better these days after reading a book called "Supernatural Childbirth" I found it at Barnes & Noble.

Sorry have not logged on in a while, but I am in CA and I used a clinic in Reno NV. I did look at one in Houston that guaranteed a take home baby if you met the criteria. It was really expensive, but if you did not end up with a postitive result you got 80% back. Don't remember the name of the facility but worth looking into!!
