IUI used for ICI at home?

My donor only has IUI and ART ICI vials. Can I use IUI vials for an at home insemination because there is no ICI? What is the best way to insert semen for a cervical insemination? Where can you find the right needless syringe and catheter?

  • I'm not sure about question #1 (ask your doctor), although I suspect you'll need ICI vials.

As for doing an ICI at home, here's a useful set of directions I followed:

    http://www.fertilityplus.org/faq/homeinsem.html

You can buy a needless syringe at just about any pharmacy or online sources like Amazon, but make sure you get one that has a relatively small tip. Mine was too big and it was impossible to fit it into the sperm vial (they're very small, plus there's only a little sperm in there so you want to get it all!). And per those instructions, I inserted an Instead Cup afterward, which holds the sperm up there for up to eight hours.

    Good luck!
