ICI Wash Survival Rate?

I recently had an IUI with a vial of your ICI sperm. The post thaw count was well under your 15 million guarantee at 5.5 million (with a corrected count of 7.9 million). Post wash, the total motile sperm was 300,000, which is less than 0.5% of the pre-wash total. Is this typical? What is the expected survival rate post wash of your ICI sperm?

I have used IUI vials in the past, but my current donor didn't have any available. I was under the impression that post wash the count would be comparable to the IUI vials, was I mistaken?

  • Hi Tffo -

While an ICI vial is generally acceptable for IUI after wash, we cannot predict the recovery rate from another laboratory. There's more than one method for "washing" semen, and several variables to consider.

If there is a concern, CCB can speak with the lab to troubleshoot the issue.

Generally speaking, there should be more than enough motile sperm in a washed ICI vial for successful pregnancy via IUI.
