Sperm quality

Hi Scott,
The paperwork that came with my vial stated the donor had a Ct. per MI of 50 and Motility % of 59. My RE said that the vial was a small amount like 1 cc. Does that mean the true count is 25 million, half of what the paperwork states? Or did that one vial have 50 million sperm? I was a bit confused by that. Thanks!

Yes and no.
IUI vials are .5 ml, so the total sperm is half of the per ml listed.
ICI vials are 1 ml so the number is the same.
I don't know which type of vial you are using, but even if it is an IUI, 25 million at 59% motility is a great number (= about 15 million total motile sperm).
Our minimum guarantee on IUI vials is 10 million. For the record, studies have demonstrated that once you are over 5 million total motile sperm, the odds of a successful prenancy do not actually increase with more sperm.
Hope this clarifies things for you,
Scott
