IUI vials have the seminal fluid and weaker sperm "washed" away for insemination directly into the uterus. This places the sperm much closer to the egg and generally leads to better odds of a successful pregnancy. This procedure is always performed in a doctor's office. These vials should not be washed again by a physician.
ICI vials are unwashed because the insemination is into the cervix and the additional sperm help protect and drive the good sperm all the way to the egg. This procedure can be performed at home or in a doctor's office. Many physicians will have patients order ICI vials and do the wash themselves after the vial is thawed. There is generally an additional lab fee associated with the wash.
Comments
IUI are used for IntraUterine Insemination
There is also a difference in how they are washed prior to the procedure and cannot be interchanged.
Hope that helps
