Unsuccessful - How many tries? How old? ICI/IUI

I'm 33 now and I have had 5 IUI (3 medicated) & 4 ICI at home, and still not pregnant. We are moving on to trying IUI at a fertility clinic. We've already used all our vials of our first donor, which is costly and now we have been trying with a new donor. Is it me or getting pregnant with donor sperm makes the odds worst vs fresh sperm?
We wonder at times; whether we should try to find someone who's willing to be a donor. We have friends that used a friend as a donor, and it's worked out great. But it's complicated... and I love being able to pick exactly what we want.
