TWW over 40?

I had my IUI today. Docs won't put me on any kind of fertility mess so I have to do this only using ovulation as my indicator. I'm over 40 so I was wondering if there were any other ladies out there like me to talk to over the next two weeks.

  • hi, I'm 41 and did three ICIs with no success then did an IUI and had success on the first try! I didn't need any meds either since I'm healthy. All I did was track ovulation with a fertility monitor and then scheduled the IUI for within 6 hours of ovulation. How are you feeling?
  • newbie373 what do you mean 6 hours of ovulation? when you got your surge? we are having trouble with the timing.
    thanks!
  • I researched to find out exactly how LH surges work and I can forward you the link to the document if you want. For the LH to show up in urine it takes awhile (blood tests can show LH surge more accurately). Do you use an OPK in the afternoon or morning? LH is actually released after 10 am in most women and then can be picked up by a urine OPK that evening after 4 (for me it was usually around 7pm) but my fertility monitor demands that I only test once a day using first morning pee, so my monitor would say LH surge on day 11, yet the evening before I would get a positive OPK, so my LH actually surges on day 10, meaning my ovulation is day 12 (for me it's between 11-5pm on day 12). The link I can send you identifies how many hours after urine detection of LH that ovulation occurs based on many, many clinical studies of women. I used their conclusions to time it so that I knew my 6 hour window of actual ovulation. An IUI must be within 6 hours of ovulation because the swimmers don't have cervical mucus to nourish them so they don't live as long as they would from having sex. I"ll check back here tonight and if you want I can email or skype you that info.
  • Hi newbie 373 I'm so excited that someone actually responded. I would llove the link. I could have tested today but I think I will wait. My breasts are sore and I have sharp pains off an on in my pelvic area feels like ovary pain. I'm hopeful but I get similar pains before AF. Why do they have to be so similar? Can u remember your TWW? Hope to hear from you.
  • HI! Sorry I didn't check here for a few days. How are you?? skype me at ellie91773 and I'll send you that link and anything else that might be useful. My TWW: I went for long walks, did yoga, cooked good food, read, and watched a couple of lighthearted movies. Treated it like a stay-cation and tried my darndest to be relaxed in body, mind, and spirit! My name's Ellie btw.
  • Hi Ellie I will try to contact you this weekend.
  • Great, I"ll keep an eye out :)
  • @newbie373 I have never used Skype but I know what it is. This weekend was crazy busy but I am hopeful I can ask someone about Skype on Monday. AF showed so I am trying again this week as soon as I get my O. The timing was probably off last time. my email is sciencebutterfly@yahoo.com if you want to send it in an email.

Thanks in advance because I can use all the help I can get.

    My name is Rosa :)
  • Hi Rosa, I'm going to send you an email now. It'll be coming from my email account of nell90@hotmail.com, so look in your junk mail box if it's not in your inbox :)

  • Hi Ellie,

I just sent you an email from my starspells@gmail.com account. I hope you are able to use that one instead. I have no idea why it would not accept your email. Thanks again.

Update: I did my second IUI today. The timing was much better this time. So I am very hopeful

  • Hi Ellie, thank you for sending me the study. I got it yesterday. I was trying to read it but I was interrupted. I will give you more feedback.

Yesterday and today I have light spotting. Possibly implantation bleeding?? One can hope. Did that happen to you?

  • So I finally read the study. There seems to be a bit of mixing info. Sometimes it mentions LH surge and other times it mentions Peak LH surge. So peak is what I would go by. That is what my monitor measures. What I took home was that ovulation would occur 20 + or - 3 hours after peak. The ovum is only viable for 16hrs. There was a lot of info. Thanks again for the email. Where did you come up with the 6 hour window? I will wait for your reply.
