How long can sperm be frozen and still viable?

I keep finding donors I am very interested in but the specimens are from 2003 or 2004.

What is the cutt off for quality sperm in terms of how long its been frozen?

Are there any statistics on pregnancies from sperm more than 2 years old?

Thank you. :)

  • Hi 2cmybaby -

There is no known limit to the amount of time sperm can be frozen and remain viable.

There have actually been successful pregnancies after more than 20 years of freezing.

You certainly have nothing to worry about using donors who have been retired for a few years.

    Good luck,

  • Thank you.

I purchased my vial today and I'm hoping next month will be my month to conceive.

    Have a great week.
