Waiving rights

CCB Admin,

Can you describe, in detail, any waivers that donors sign forfeiting their rights to offspring? Do these waivers differ from open and anonymous donors? Just looking for what legal protections exist in addition to restricted contact until child is 18. Thank you.

  • Hi M -

The difference between our anonymous, open, and ID release donors is what they agree to if their offspring want to communicate with them once they turn 18. You can read more about this here: https://cryobank.com/how-it-works/donor-types/

All of our sperm donors sign a legal document waiving all parental rights and responsibilities to children conceived from the purchase of their sperm. By signing a contract with us, the donor is exempt from child support or any other responsibilities of a legal parent; sperm donors may not participate in our program until this document has been signed.

If you happen to have a partner that is considering second parent adoption, we can provide a letter for your attorney handling the adoption.

Please note that using a directed donor which is a person you know but not in a sexual relationship with is different. When using someone you know as your sperm donor, it's best to work with an attorney because you will need legal protection for your family.

    Regards,
