IUI Timing

Hi all,

What has helped you the most with IUI timing? Any advice would be most appreciated!

  • Lots of websites out there to educate you on how it works. We bought the Clear Blue monitor. It's expensive and so are the strips but it is also the most accurate. It learns how to read you so the more you use it the more intelligent it gets about you. My wife used it and we discovered she wasn't ovulating. So I used it and success. Wishing you the best!
  • I did blood work and ultrasound monitoring. I realize that is not an option for everyone, but that is what worked for me. I would only test positive on the OPKs the day I ovulated (day 14) 3 months in a row, but the blood work would show my LH surging on Day 13 (3 months in a row). I even tested with different OPKs in a.m. and p.m. on Day 13 and always negative. Day 14 was always positive and consistently felt ovulation between 11am - 4pm on Day 14. And follicle was collapsed Day 15 via ultrasound. Got pregnant on first IUI -- natural cycle. (The reason I had 2 other months of monitoring is b/c my partner and I were trying to do a reciprocal IVF with her eggs/embryos. They were monitoring me for a natural transfer each month but the embryos never made it to day 5 blasts). I got the benefit of the IVF monitoring (bloodwork and ultrasound nearly every day from day 12 on) going into my first IUI and it worked like a charm. The digital OPKs worked and I would recommend them but not for my clinics protocol. They did IUI the day after first positive OPK and for me with lifespan of frozen sperm that would have always been the day after I ovulated and a day too late.
