The Process

Hi everyone,

I have researched the cryo bank as well as narrowed down my top 3 donors. I'm looking to start come this April and I'm just wondering, would a regular gyno be able to do the insemination? Is anyone doing it themselves? Does CCB require you to have a doctor before ordering? Also any advice you may have would be helpful as far as your experiences.

Thank you in advance,

  • The CCB does need a dr's signature before releasing the vials. I had my vials shipped to the dr because he stores them for free, but you should check with your dr regarding storage options or if you want to leave them at CCB in case you don't need them and want to take advantage of their buy back program. My regular OB did my IUIs, but I have heard other OBs don't do that. Basically, you need to schedule an appt with your OB to see what he provides or if he will refer you to a reproductive specialist for treatment.
  • Thank you so much for the information. I am now on the Dr. hunt as we speak lol
  • I got my regular doc to sign the form - faxed to them and they faxed to CCB. Some OBs do inseminations (usually without monitoring) and some refer to REs / fertility clinics. Depending where you are you may also be able to find a midwife to do inseminations at your home or their office. Our plan was to start with home inseminations and then move to a clinic for monitoring after 2-3 cycles at home. We were lucky and with our first cycle I am now pregnant.
