  • Hi E -

I'm sorry to hear about your IUI.

It's important to know that studies have determined that for IUIs with donor sperm, anything greater than 5 million total motile sperm does not improve pregnancy outcome. (Our vial standards are set generously above this mark.)

There are many variables involved when a physician's office evaluates the specimen. Different types of lab equipment and different thawing, washing, and counting methods may result in a count different from ours.

It's not unusual for specimen to be under-thawed, which could show low motility during evaluation. However, sperm thrive at body temperature, so once inseminated, the sperm would continue to warm up and the motility would increase.

Also, on average it takes about 3-4 IUIs to achieve pregnancy. All of our sperm donors go through our stringent screening process and each specimen is evaluated prior to release to ensure that it meets our high quality standards. All CCB donors are capable of contributing to a successful pregnancy.

That being said, please don't get discouraged by this process. We're here to help! If you haven't done so already, please feel free to have your physician submit a Specimen Report form so that we can look into this further for you.

    Regards,
