Instead cup??

Hello...
We received our vial today and will be inseminating in the next couple of days, just waiting for + OPK. This is our first attempt and we have been reading alot about people using an instead cup to help "trap" the semen at the base of the cervix. Have any of you tried this and what are your thoughts??? Also, I have a retroverted uterus and we are trying to figure out the best position to get in for the insemination.... any tips?

  • My Dr used something similiar called a Fertility Pak. She inserted it in me while I was on the table directly after IUI. Not sure if it helped yet. I felt like I was leaking a little but I think it was just the feeling of something in there and body fluids/lubricant for instruments after procedure. I was directed to take out 4 hrs later. I don't think it can hurt. Good luck!
  • Ok, thanks for your reply.

We did at home insem last night and then used the instead cup. I slept with it in and took it out this morning. I am a little worried that we jumped the gun. I had a positive OPK last night at 8:30 and we were so excited and did the insem a couple of hours later. I took another OPK test at 6:00am it was still positive and then did another one at 9:00 (for curiosity) and it was negative. I hope we didn't do it too soon. I am reading how people have waited for 12 hours after getting their positive to do the insemination. I guess we shall see.

Good luck to you too! :-)
  • I've heard of some people do back to backs insem and the first one was within hours of positive and the second 24-36hrs later.

Well anything can happen and we never know when will be the exact right moment for the little guys to meet the egg because it's differnet everytime. I think no matter what we all worry about the timing and you never know how close you will ovulate after positive result.

    Thanks!
  • I used the Instead cup and thought it was awful- it was hard to put in and take out, and I dont see how the sperm can reach the cervix sitting in that cup. I think a cervical cap or something is better and I am going to look at one of those. I have also used the applicators for like Monistat cream, which work good too, and honestly, I still hear the good old fashioned turkey baster is another good option.
  • We used a medicine syringe 5 ml and the instead cup after we inserted the semen...and it WORKED!! I am 8 weeks pregnant from our first attempt with at home insemination!
  • We didn't put the semen in the cup, just slept with it in AFTER we depositied the semen...
