First IUI with 13228

My husband and I are trying our first IUI this month! I'm nervous and excited. Any advice? We are using donor 13228. Anyone else trying with this donor? Best of luck to all of you!

  • Best of luck! My partner and I are doing our 2nd IUI. Focusing this month on ovulation plan and taking it easy and relaxing!
  • Congratulations on being so close to that IUI! I am going in for my first one ever on the 16th so I completely understand. We are also using a different donor. I know I was very emotional as this started to progress but I cried, vented, and am fine now! Just do your best to relax and know that there is a plan for all of us. I wish you the best of luck!!!
  • Thank you to both of you for your responses! Hwhit, what was your first IUI like? Why did you switch donors? Nblondheim, good luck on your first IUI! I agree that there is a grieving and soul searching process that can sometimes lead us to donor sperm, but I am happy with our decision now and excited to be a mom. I started AF this morning so the process has officially begun. I will take Femara, do a trigger shot, and get progesterone supplementation during this cycle in addition to 2 ultrasounds and IUI. Are either of your cycles medicated? Are either of you using 13228? Best of luck on your journey to parenthood <3
  • We are not using any supplementation at this time.
Our first iui day one went well and day two Jess said
Was painful as they had to straighten her uterus. She had a cyst burst afterwards so we have no idea how long it had
been there so she had a lot of pain. We are looking forward to
an easier process 2nd go around. Thursday and Friday big
Days and then waiting begins again. Best of luck to you all. If
we don't have positive this go around we are going to try clomid.
  • You are very welcome! Thank you for the good luck with our first IUI. How exciting that your process has officially begun. Oh how I know that feeling! I went in on Wednesday and had an ultrasound done and everything looked good. They started me on clomid the next day and I took it until yesterday. Then I go back for an ultrasound again on Friday to see how many follicles I have and how they are measuring. If all is still good, I will trigger shot that night and go in for insemination on Sunday, June 16th. At this point we are not using progesterone but it will depend on my levels. If they aren't where they needed to be, we will be using it. I am using donor 13314. I wish you the best of luck too and keep us posted!
  • Hwhit, sorry to hear your partner had a cyst! Sounds painful. I haven't heard of having to have your uterus straightened. They are doing a number on her! Does she have PCOS? That is what I have and why they are starting me off with meds to ovulate. Hope you two get pregnant this month! I used Clomid in the past and I think it helped but my husband didn't have sperm at the time (little did we know). Long story short, he didn't have sperm because he had cancer. After a year of chemo and surgery, he is cancer free but it left him sterile which is why we are here :) Nblondheim, good luck on Friday! Hope you have lots of healthy follicles. Is this your first month on Clomid? I have my day 3 ultrasound tomorrow and I start Femara that day. Really excited!! Good luck! Keep us all posted :) Hopefully we can all come back and report BFPs soon!!
  • Gratitudeandlove wow sorry I meant they had to straighten her cervix! Lol! I am really hoping we all can report pregnancies as well. Yes it is a lot to decide and contemplate with using a donor but we will all be elated when we are mommies :)
Especially for me not carrying the child I can't wait to see that little one resemble something I do or say. I joke about how much my poodle acts like me and he's a dog! Terrible comparison but you know what I mean. J will be an amazing mother! I am so lucky! So very happy your husband is doing well gratitudeandlove!!! nblondheim best of luck!!!!!!

    Relax. Positivity. Prayers.
  • GratitudeAndLove our stories are so close to the same with our husband issues!!! Although my husband was born with what they thought was cancer at the time so his testicles were removed. (It turned out to be something other than cancer.) Therefore, he has no sperm production at all. I am very glad to hear that your husband is cancer free!!! Thank you very much for the good luck for tomorrow. I too hope I have many healthy follicles! Yes this is my first month on clomid. I hope your ultrasound went well! I truly hope we all come back with BFPs too!! How wonderful that would be!

Hwhit thank you for the luck it is much appreciated! :)
  • Hi ladies! Hwhit, I love what you said about your poodle. We absolutely love our two west highland terriers. They have the best personalities! Will be interesting to see if all of our dogs are jealous with a baby around to take up the attention. I loved your "mantra" at the end of your post "Relax. Positivity. Prayers." It's a good reminder :) Nblondhheim, it is so nice to hear someone with a similar story. Hearing the "no sperm" diagnosis was a hard one, but I am so glad there are options for people in our situation! Thank you for wishing me well on the ultrasound. It went really well actually. They said my ovaries looked good, no cysts (which is great to hear since I have PCOS). They gave me the go-ahead to start Femara. So far, no side effects. Next ultrasound is next Wednesday when they'll check to see how many follicles I have. Until then, they told my husband and I to talk encouragingly to my follicles lol. So I gave them a pep talk and sang them a song yesterday. I might be losing it :) :) :) Good luck at your ultrasound tomorrow. Give a pep talk to your follicles and let us know how they are looking! <--this sentence would sound so weird in any other context. Haha. Good luck ladies! Thinking of you :)
  • IUI today! Jess resting peacefully at home and I'm back
at work. Best of luck tomorrow. Talking to your follicles is
so precious! We talk to the gift (sperm) .Go baby go! Help
Bring our little wonder into this world!

Ladies best of luck this week! We go back tomorrow
for round two then the wait begins to test. Horrible
storms in area today. Maybe our little soul was
coming in with an entrance!! Thundering the whole time.
Was actually relaxing. Do either of you in your experience
know what average motility is for sperm?
  • Oh gosh.... jealous dogs...I am totally going to have one. We got a cocker spaniel pug mix a year ago who is a year and 2 months old and is totally jealous of my husband and I together. I can only imagine what it will be like when it is a baby!!!

It is very nice to talk to someone else with a similar story. My husband knew from the beginning he wouldn't have be able to have children. He did tell me before we got married but he has had his whole life to deal with this reality while I have only had a few years. It sure is hard!!! But the important part is someway and somehow we will have children in our life! :)

Woooohooo!! I am glad to hear you don't have any cysts. I took clomid and the only side effect I noticed was being more irritable than normal. Other than that I was fine. I hope your side effects are non existent or minimal!

Thank you for the good luck! I will be sure to give my follicles a pep talk! :) What a great idea! I will definitely let you know how things go for me.

How very exciting Hwhit!!!! I absolutely love that both of you talk to follicles and sperm.... I didn't even think of that. I don't know what the average motility is for sperm...sorry! I wish you and Jess the best of luck!

Thinking of both you at this very exciting time in our lives!!!! Sending sticky baby dust both of your ways!!!!
  • On my way back from my ultrasound appointment and wanted to update you two. I can't believe how excited the nurse who did my ultrasound was as everything looked GREAT! I have 6, yes 6, follicles! 2 of them are mature and ready now while the other 4 are very close and they predict with the trigger shot they will mature. She said it's possible for 6 babies although she said it's very unlikely that that would happen. We trigger shot tonight and go in for insemination Sunday morning! I'm ecstatic!!!! :)))
  • Yayyyyy Nblondheim! That is great news! 6 follicles wow! Clomid worked perfect. How exciting. Congratulations! It is so nice to hear your story and "live through it" as I am just a few cycle days behind you :) Best of luck on Sunday. Are you doing back to back IUIs like hwhit? I think my doctor is only doing 1. Do you know why a doctor would do 1 vs. 2? Hwhit, how did the 2 IUIs go? What is the IUI procedure like? I know nothing about average sperm motility. Sorry! Were the doctors happy with your vial?
  • Thank you very much!!! It is great news! The clomid definitely did it's job. All the follicles are on my right side and my left side had none that were big enough but she said that's not a problem! I absolutely am glad to have found you as well and Hwhit as it's great to talk to others going through pretty much the same thing at very close to the same time!! I am doing back to back IUIs. My doctor said 1 vial per try and we are only doing one. I guess I never asked why that was as I didn't realize doing 2 back to back was an option! I also would like to know the why to that, how the IUI went, and the procedure!!!
  • We are done with our first IUI! Vial looked good and procedure went well. I was very nervous beforehand! I wish you both the best and can't wait for hopefully exciting news for all of us!
  • Yay! Now for your 2 week wait! When are the both of you scheduled to get blood pregnancy tests? I will be sending good thoughts both of your ways! I have my ultrasound Wednesday to check my follicles and I am assuming my trigger and IUI will happen a few days after that. So excited/nervous!! Hopefully we'll all be mamas this month :)
  • Nblondheim congratulations on your iui!!! Sound like things moved along well for you and gratitudeandlove next week?
Our first and second iui went well...now the waiting. Our doctor said to do one then another 24 hours later. We test for ovulation and then schedule. We were worried with Thursday we may have jumped the gun but Friday would have put us in the mix for Saturday assuming the gift lasted that long. All this makes you question everything during the process... :)
Have either of you heard from your doctor on how long they assume the sperm lasts after procedure? They have to wait 24 hours and can do another iui next day. Our frustration is our doctor does not do Saturdays so we just rest on fact we did best we could this cycle..... So tough like hitting moving target with arrows ;). Sorry ladies I am not educated on trigger shot? Learning as we go. We spent the weekend watching little league baseball. Great aunts!!! Can't wait to be great mommies yes!!!! Our doctor she was pleased with vial and said looked better then last time. Motility was good. Normal range 50 and it was 60. We are just questioning results of our ovulation kit. Tried the one showing two peak days and two highest peak clear blue but after first test it would not reset. First test showed ovulating but would not reset for next day. Like any of us have extra money to spend on kits! We went ahead with IUIs and tested this morning after buying new kit. Said ovulating and old said not...ugg. Leave it up to Mother Nature now.
  • I did my IUI on Saturday. My doctor told me she didn't mind coming in b/c there would probably be a time when I was ready and she wouldn't be here to do the procedure. So I'm glad it worked out for the both of us. My donor's motility was 53, at least that's what the paperwork said. I don't know if that's true or not b/c when the doc looked under the microscope she said that if we didn't succeed this month then I needed to go with another donor. She said he was within range but she didn't like their speed. A little lazy:) hope that's not a sign of how his offspring would be. lol

Putting it all in God's hands.
  • Hi hwhit. Hopefully the timing works out for you two! I would be frustrated also that the doctor is not open on Saturdays. I think mine is open Monday through Saturday. I do not know how long sperm lasts after the procedure, but I've heard sperm can live inside for up to 72 hours. When do you test? So excited to hear the results of yours and nblondheims IUIs!

Welcome highlyfavored! Which donor are you using? When do you test? So exciting!
It's helpful to hear the numbers of all your vials as I didn't know what was considered normal.

I'm really excited to see how many follicles I have on Wednesday and see how I have responded to Femara. I had some little pangs in my lower abdomen so hoping that's a good sign :) My thoughts are with you ladies!!
  • Happened to come across the answer to your question hwhit. FRESH sperm lasts 72 hours and frozen lasts 12 hours post IUI. :)
  • Hi hwhit...happened to read online that frozen donor sperm lasts 12 hours after IUI. I think that was a question you had. :)
  • GratitudeAndLove: I am scheduled for Friday, June 28th for my pregnancy test. I can't wait for that day to come! Thank you very much for the thoughts. I wish you the best of luck on Wednesday and the days to follow. I sure hope we can all be mamas this month!!!

Hwhit: Thank you very much! They sure did move along nicely! I haven't heard from my doctor but I heard 12-24 hours because it was frozen and then unfrozen. But that's just something I read online. That is crazy that your doctor doesn't do Saturdays. My doctor wasn't there at all but a nurse did my insemination on Sunday! I did an HCG trigger shot 2 days before insemination per my doctor's orders. It is supposed to help with ovulation and the timing of everything. I am glad to hear your vial was good! I wish you the best of luck and will be thinking of you!

Highlyflavored: Congratulations on doing your IUI on Saturday! You are a day ahead of me! :) I wish you the best of luck!

    Here are our vial stats:
    Sperm concentration: 71 million/mL
    Motile concentration: 36 million/mL
    Percent motility: 51%
    Progression: M/G
    Total motile count: 16 million
  • Thank you GratitudeAndLove
I used 12929. Plan on testing next Sat 28 or Sun 29. Don't want to test too early, don't want to be disappointed by testing early. AF is not due til Sat. But I do want to know by Sun so that I can go in for blood work on Mon or Tues if I get a positive. Those are my off days.

    Good luck on your U/S.
  • Sorry I meant Sat the 29th or Sun the 30th for testing.

nblondheim if you want I may just test on Fri with you since we are right here together. I didn't do any shots or anything just clomid. Didn't know they counted from the day you administered the trigger shot. My doc didn't want to use shots just yet, truthfully I forgot what her reasoning was. I think b/c she calculated my day to ovulate to be cd13 just like I did is why we didn't use the shot. As a matter of fact I think I felt that little joker (egg) releasing earlier that morning (had some cramping). Which is what I associate with my ovulation.

This is what was on my paperwork with the sperm, maybe you can interpret what the actual numbers are. You have more info than I do.
    Ct per ml = 56
    % Motility = 53

That's all I got. Did you get your numbers from your doctor or from the sperm bank?

    Well here's to 3dpo!!!
  • That would be awesome to test together. I actually will just be going in for lab work that day as those are my orders!

I truly didn't realize they counted from the day the trigger shot was administered either. But I came home with orders for lab work on Monday June 24th to check my progesterone levels and then again on Friday, June 28th to check my levels again and do a pregnancy test. Sunday, June 30th would be 2 weeks after my IUI.

I honestly don't know what is good or not. I just know everyone talks about it on here and I was curious. My doctor had the paperwork with it all filled out and I asked her if I could have a copy of the vial stats. She laughed and said she honestly didn't know. She asked and they said I could have a copy but that no one had ever asked them that before! :)

We can do this.... and I have high hopes for everyone!!!

    *Sticky baby dust!!*
  • Sticky baby dust!!! Will be poas Fri morning b/c the doctor's office closes at noon that day. So if I get a positive I can go ahead and call them. Friday is the day the doc originally said anyway so I'm sure it will be ok. But if that's too early then I'll poas again on Sunday. I'll definitely be late by then.
  • Lots of prayers and baby dust to you ladies!!! Good luck!! I'm actually excited to see AF just because I'm so ready to get going again!! Fingers crossed June is the month!!!
  • Sticky baby dust is right!!! I go Friday, June 28th in the late afternoon for my pregnancy test. I'm very hopeful!!!

I totally understand why you are excited for AF!!! Thanks for the prayers and baby dust! It's much appreciated!!!
  • So excited for all of you getting to poas this Friday and also on the 29th and 30th! Also excited for those of you waiting for AF to come. I certainly know that feeling of just wanting to get started already! Had my day 10 ultrasound today. I have 3 good follicles. ..sizes 17, 13 and 13. I will trigger Friday night and have my very first IUI on Sunday! :) DH and I are both excited and happy :)
  • Thx and Good Luck GratitudeAndLove wishing you the best.

5 down and 9 to go!!!
