I was refused a passport (at application) for my donor child because I had no documentation of custody. Even after explaining my situation of having used an anonymous donor and presenting my child's birth certificate with no listed father I was told that was not good enough and I needed proof the father had given up legal custody.
Has anyone else run into this issue? How do you prove a negative (a parent who never had custody giving up custody)? Was this person just wrong because I thought the birth certificate would have been enough but I was just told the government "is getting really strict" about this now. My child ALREADY HAS A PASSPORT where I did not have to provide any additional documentation but now I am unable to renew it. They could not even tell me what kind of documentation was required.
