CMV - choosing a CMV + donor

Does anyone know the real effects of choosing a CMV + donor. I am CMV negative and feel conflicted since the donor i was looking forward to is CMV positive. Only choosing negative candidates reduces the pool significantly. Also, most people conceiving have no idea their partner's status and this seem like they work out. Anyone have any insight here?

  • @BlackWomanMagic I believe it works something like this. If you are negative and the donor is positive and you contract CMV during your pregnancy (from the donor sperm) you can pass it on to the baby and it could cause problems such as hearing loss, neurological abnormalities and decreased motor skills. You're right usually you wouldn't know and the abnormalities may have presented themselves and you wouldn't have known why. I think if you're adamant about the donor it'll probably be fine. I would ask my Dr. if I were you. The article I read said chances are slim but there's a 30-40% chance of passing it if you do get it while pregnant.
