Open or ID disclosed

Do the ID disclosed agree to meet the child if they reach out? If an open donor does not want to meet the child, does the child still get the information like an ID disclosed?

  • @HelloAll I just want to clarify that none of our donors agree to meet a child. Our Open Donors have agreed to one communication and that's if the offspring is at least 18 years old and requests it. The communication can be an anonymous email or phone call and it would be facilitated by our staff. Additional communication and breaking anonymity depends on if the donor and offspring both agree to it. Here's more information on Open Donors: https://www.cryobank.com/how-it-works/donor-types/

For ID Disclosure Donors, the donor has agreed to allow us to release his identifying information to offspring that request it (if they are at least 18 years old). The offspring can request anonymous communication with the donor, as per our anonymous donor contact policy: https://www.cryobank.com/services/post-conception-services/anonymous-donor-contact-policy/ We would actually prefer both parties to communicate prior to the release of the donor's identifying information.

  • Even though they don’t have to meet, do many donors agree to meet their donor child? About what percentage?
