RH Factor?

Hi,

The baby books/blog/etc state that both the mother and father’s blood needs to be tested to determine RH compatibility. I have not been able to find that info in the medical records for the donor we want. How will we be able to determine this?

You can find it under Blood Type. A plus (+) means that the donor is Rh positive (the red blood cells have Rh proteins on their surface). A minus (-) means that the donor is Rh negative (the cells don't have Rh proteins). For example, if a donor's blood type is O+, he is Rh positive. There is some risk when an Rh negative woman is carrying an Rh positive baby, but there is treatment to mitigate such risk (https://www.nhlbi.nih.gov/health-topics/rh-incompatibility).
