What is considered low motility ?

We did an iui today and the count was 19 million and only 33% motility. I'm reading that under 40% is VERY low and now I'm driving myself crazy thinking that this cycle is already a bust. Does anyone know what an ideal percentage is for success?!

  • @Shanic32 Studies find that pregnancy rates with IUIs with donor sperm are maximized with 5 million motile sperm. (More recent studies suggest that outcomes are maximized with much less sperm.) The chances of a successful pregnancy via IUI do not increase with more sperm. You can read more about this here: https://cryobank.com/how-it-works/specimen-processing/specimen-information/

I'm not sure what you read that alarmed you, but please keep in mind that there are differences between analysis of frozen sperm and fresh sperm. Also, studies will differentiate cycles with donor sperm from partner sperm.

Less than 1% of applicants actually become Cryobank donors. Our donors possess specimen quality that's in the top 15%-20% of the male population. The screening process takes approximately 4 months, and you can read more about that here: https://cryobank.com/how-it-works/donor-qualification/
