Change donor or try again...4 failed IUI's.

I know it is ultimately our choice, but I am curious as to what others think...

We just had another BFN on our 4th IUI. Our 3rd IUI ended in a chemical pregnancy. The 1st and 2nd were BFN's. My partner and I are discussing whether we should try 2 more times with our current donor, being that our Dr's say it is an average of 6 IUI trys to get a BFP, or if we should try a different donor.

Our current donor has less than 5 pregnancies and the other one we are looking at has more than 5 pregnancies. We currently have other viles stored for my partner when it's her turn. Do we risk it and by one vile of the new donor and see if we have any luck, or do we sell back our current viles and buy bulk of the new donor, to be safe?

As you can tell, after you experience several failed IUI's you start thinking A LOT more. Like I said it is ultimately our decsion, but it is nice to have support from others who may be experiencing what we are.

Thank you to all of you who have taken time to read this post. I wish all of you who are in your 2WW all the best of luck and loads of baby dust!

  • Hi Jessica,

Thanks for your input. We went to the Dr yesterday for my baseline ultra sound. After discussion with our Dr and nurses, we decided to continue with our same donor for this next round. I took a very low dosage of clomid last time, so this time we are going to try the average amount. They said, the fact that I did technically get pregnant with this donor is a good since, just unfortunately ended in a chemical pregnancy.

I completely understand what you mean by it just doesn't "work" the way you thought it would. It is comforting to know that we aren't the only ones going through this. That's why I decided to post to see what others thought. I think we will give it another chance or two with this donor and then maybe re evaluate. Out Dr's said it is an average of 6 tries. (Technically it took 3 for me but ended unsuccessful.)

The emotional rollercoaster is the hardest part. We look so forward to the day of getting a positive pregnancy test. Unfortunately for couples like us, it is pretty much a one shot deal in terms of timing for the IUI.

All the best to you and yoru wife. My wife and I wish you all the best. Keep us posted.

  • Keep the Faith ladies, my partner and I tried 8 times with ICI then moved to IUI and got a BFP the first time. All were with the same donor. Now were 30 weeks along. And its hard to imagine it now but the emotional roller coaster now only prepares you for the one to come after the BFP!! Baby dust to you both!!
