Question about testing for LH Surge

So my dr has advised me to test (opk) at my second morning pee, but I ALWAYS surge in the afternoon/evening. So, if I ignore the evening surge and count the following morning as my +...wouldn't the following day be too late to inseminate???
If you have had a child or are pregnant...did any of you get a + surge in the evening and then go in to have the IUI the next morning? So that wouldn't even be 24 hrs later???
