IUI question

Hi Scott,
First of all thanks for always being so wonderful about addressing everyone's concerns and questions. This is a very intense process and your support is greatly appreciated.
I was wondering if your medical team could tell me how long an IUI vial will survive once used in an IUI? I feel like I have heard so many different things from doctors and wanted to get your feedback. Once the vial is used for an IUI how many hours can it survive?
Once again, many thanks!

The biggest difference between live and thawed sperm is the amount of time they survive after insemination.
While frozen sperm is just as "potent" as fresh, it tends to only maintain motility (swim) anywhere from 12-24 hours. Fresh sperm can keep going for up to 72 hours.
This is why timing is so important. With natural conception you can have up to 3 days for the sperm to find the egg. Artificial insemination has to be much more exact to hit the mark.
Good luck,
Scott
