Trying our 7th iui

Has anyone else tried more then 6 iui procedures. My partner and I have had 6 unsuccessful iui's. Was wondering if anyone has got a positive one after that many tries.

  • Hi Zamora, my wife and I have been trying for a year but but have skipped a few months along the way. In total, we've probably done 8-9 cycles. We recently decided to switch donors and stop IUIs to try at home. We know the success rates are lower than IUI but we are in better control of the timing of things. As hard as it is, don't give up hope, though there are many days when I fall apart and feel it is totally hopeless. Hang in there.
  • Thanks 2mamas, it sure is a stressful process. I wish you all the luck, and you hang in there too! keep me posted please...
  • You too!
  • HI Zamora-My wife and I did 7 IUIs in total. Our doctor was okay with us trying more, but she strongly suggested we use a different donor, since sometimes the egg & sperm just aren't a "good fit."

I didn't want to bother with any more IUIs, however, and have gotten attached to our donor. We are doing IVF:)

And 2mamas, a friend of my mothers did 10 IUIs with no success and her 11th try was an ICI with sperm from the same donor and it WORKED! Hope you get lucky, too:)

  • Thanks for the advice Livvy :) We have tried 4 different donors total. I think we are going to try one more IUI cycle with a different donor again and then proceed to IVF if we get a bfn. How exactly does the ICI work is it something done at home? Our doctor only deals with IUIs.
  • ICI is basically turkey basting, from what I understand. You don't use a catheter and bypass the cervix. It's a bit cheaper than IUI but the success rate isn't quite as high.
  • thanks Livvy that's what I kinda thought lol

  • Best of luck to all of you on this journey. It's definitely nice to interact with people who are in the same boat. We've had 2 unsuccessful IUI's and are now about to attempt our first ICI at home with 2 vials back to back, about 12 hours apart. Wishing you all the best of luck!
  • Hi All..
I just read this post and feel your pain. I also see below one noted that a friends Mom did 10 IUIs and her 11th one worked! Well that just gave us hope, as we are about to try out 11th try!!
Don't give up, we are not! We have done 6 at home ICI's , 3 w Fertility using clomid and trigger shots, and them inseminating, and still no luck. Now we are back to home ICI's and doing our 11th try!! Lots of baby dust needed!! Good Luck to you all!!
