ICI and IUI

Hi Scott,

If a donor currently has only ICI vials available, does it mean that I can expect for IUI vials to be available in the near future? Or is this not the correct assumption. ICI is not an option for me and donor 05686 only has ICI available.

Thanks in advance for checking and responding.

  • Hi Hayley -

Unfortunately, Donor 5686 is retired from donating and only has ICI vials available.

However, the only difference between and ICI and IUI is a sperm wash. Your physician can wash the ICI and it is ready to go for an IUI procedure.

    Good luck,

  • can i use an IUI for an ICI
  • Hi j -

It is not advisable. There are less sperm in an IUI since the insemination is much closer to the egg.

There is also less protection for the sperm once they are washed, making it more difficult to survive the relatively long trip from the cervix to the uterus.

    Regards,
