Insemination

I am new at this could anyone tell me what I would need for a doctor to inseminate me like it would be with home insemination, would it be Premium ICI or Premium IUI? Any answers would help and be greatly appreciated.

  • You should call your OB or RE whomever if doing the insemination and find out what they want. They are all different! Mine wanted IUI but several women I know their docs wanted ICI so they could wash it themselves. Good luck in your journey!
  • My doctor had me order ICI but they wash it themselves anyway and then I had IUI done.
  • My doctor told me I could order either one. It was cheaper to order the ICI and have my doctor wash it, so that's the route I went. But really the only difference is ICI is not washed and IUI is washed. If your doctor can wash it, then you can probably really order either one. So, you might want to talk to your doctor to make sure they can wash them.
  • My doc said the same. I did IUI anyway; at first I didn't expect to have to do this more than once anyway. LOL! This donor only has IUI, so that's what I have to get.
  • Thank you all for the feedback I am single and fixing to go through the process of being inseminated because I dont want to just go out and have intercourse with anyone, ya know what I mean. Now days, you just dont ever know with all the diseases and such going around?? Have any of you gotten pregnant off the first insemination and which donor did you choose?
  • That is so funny because my friends keep telling me I am paying way too much for this process and could get free sperm at any bar in town. But besides diseases, I don't want to trap some poor guy into having a baby he does not want, and I don't want to have to tell my child they are the result of a one night stand. Plus this way you get the added bonus of knowing the guy's medical history. I would be scared to pick up some random guy that has no telling what medical issues in his family.

And I did not get a BFP on the first IUI. I am currently in my second 2ww. It does happen though. And I am using donor 12695.
  • I am also in my second 2ww....I used donor 12419.
  • I am starting the process and completely overwhelmed as a single woman. Any tips on all the testing and the actual procedure?

I am about 45 days out from my first iui and am already freaking out about the 2ww!
  • I am only on my 2nd IUI (blood test tomorrow to find out if it worked) but the best advice I can give, and it sounds like a double standard, but stay positive without getting your hopes up. During my first 2ww I was making a wish list on babiesrus.com, planning how I wanted to decorate the nursery, etc....so it was overwhelmingly disappointing to not get pregnant that time. This time I am trying to think more short term...one step at a time. Don't get me wrong, I still have my moments, but I try to tell myself to back down and there is plenty of time for everything once I get through this first part.
  • The actual procedure is pretty easy. You just lay there and the doctor does the work. It's basically like a pap.

Tests vary doctor to doctor as well. Mine just did bloodwork, so that was pretty simple too.

The hard part is the 2ww. Jaimec is right about staying positive without getting your hopes up. Just try to stay busy and keep your mind off of things as much as possible.
  • Waiting for ovulation and being afraid to miss the right moment is also a drag. Can't help but question if it was not timed right, when the result is BFN.

Not feeling too optimistic on this cycle ( IUI #2), it seems conception would be a miracle... Not even sure why. Last time I did not use pregnancy tests, just waited for the period, which came -- I was PMSing, without a doubt, for a week. Planning to wait this time as well. Doctor did not say anything about blood test, just home PT. 10 more days to go. Staying busy but this is certainly on my mind at all times.

Jaimec -- Good luck! Hope your miracle has happened!
  • I am so glad that I read this thread! I did my first IUI 2.5 weeks ago and I was going nuts during the 2WW (AF came yesterday and the BFN was confirmed by the dr this morning). I, like JaimeC, was looking at the Babies R Us website and picking out strollers! It definitely made the 2WW go really slowly. Until I read this thread I was sure I was the only one who was looking so far ahead. Reading all your posts makes me feel better and more 'normal'.

    THANK YOU!

Baby dust and BFP to all!!!!
  • I have my 3rd IUI tomorrow and am determined to get through my 2ww more gracefully than last time!!
  • Any idea what it would cost in the Memphis tn area for them to check and do the insemination process without insurance? Really need some info on this can't find it anywhere?
  • What does 2ww, BFN, and BFP stand for/mean? I am new to this!!!
  • 2ww - 2 week wait
    BFN - big fat negative
    BFP - big fat positive

    also,
AF - aunt flow (your period)
    TTC - trying to conceive
